I am sick n tired about head light theft and am thinking about goin from hid's to regular bulbs, theives got my right head light assy. but the left one they tried to pry open , they could not get it, they messed both my fenders off and left the right assy on the road with all cut up wires hangin around....should I claim it, i have a $500 deductable....both the fenders are bent in and one assy. is all broken and all wires cut, they could not get the ballast though...

you cant just change the bulbs.

you will need 00-01 headlights (whole assembly)

Problem is, thieves are idiots. That is why they do what they do. Switching headlights won't work, those scumbags will have it in their mind that '02/03 Maximas come standard with HIDs and take the halogens anyway, not having a single clue what they actually stole.

BTW, what area of the country do you live in?

When I purchased my maxima I knew this was an issue (though I have been lucky *knocks on wood*) I have a $0 theft deductible on my insurance just encase this ever happens to me.

Do you have the anti theft kit nissan has for these headlights? Though one has to wonder if that would really stop them. They would probably just F#$&up the car even worse, and walk away empty handed.

Not true.

In my condo complex I was the only one with a 5th Gen, and right next to me there was a 5.5 gen and across another 5.5th.

They stole this guy headlight about 5 times (parked next to me, one day they left a bottle of corona on top of my car) and they stole the ladies headlights 3 times.

I kept telling him (he lives in my building) to get the insurance to fix it then replace with stock halogens, which I actually had for sale... he said he wanted the HID...

After 5 insurance claims, he finally sold the car and got a V6 LS.

Is the HID theft more of a northeast problem? I don't recall ever hearing about it down here in Texas and all the news stories I've read about it seem to be based in the northeast part of the country.

Wow - I thought this concern was long past. Does the headlight security kit consist of anything more than those ugly data dot stickers? I've long since removed mine because I thought they were ugly.

You guys are getting me nervous...I just put a deposit on an 03 SE.....I have off street parking, but not a garage (I live in "downtown" Boston where no one has garages).....anything to do to deter idiot thieves? The Max had the antitheft kit on it, but now I'm nervous that idiot kids will mess with my car.....damn it Beavis!!!! My fiance wants to put up a motion sensor camera, with a sign that says "Smile you're on hidden camera" I told him just the sign might deter the idiots, but you never know. If they want to steal something, they will regardless is what I'm gathering lol....Good luck to us all with HID lights! (My neighbor's Audi with xenon lights got messed with a few times, but I think they found the kid who was doing it because the idiot put the things on craigslist and they caught him)

thieves are going after ballast and bulbs. It doesn't matter what kind of headlights you have. If you have HIDs, they'll go after them.
