2001 Maxima GLE - Replaced MAF Sensor/ECU Reset
Bad MAF. Local garage charged me $120 to spray cleaner on it. Whatever the idiots sprayed burned out the sensor. Purchased a new sensor on the web for $45. Disconnected the battery for several hours and replaced the MAF Sensor (just the meter). Reconnected the battery and it ran perfectly. At least for my 2001 Maxima, a simple reset of the ECU does the trick.

Another way of reseting ECU?
Hey guys, old thread I know, but just wanted to ask if there is another way. I used to drive an old '93 Jeep Cherokee, and to reset the ECU you could just take the terminals off the battery then connect them directly for ~10 seconds. This would allow any capacitors in any circuits to discharge. This is similar to pressing the brake pedal and turning the headlights on as well.
Does anyone know if this method also works for the '02? And will not cause any damage?
Thanks guys

This thing may indeed discharge all your capacitors, but whether your battery survives this event is open to debate. Go ahead, and let us know what the outcome is!

If you remove the battery cables, there is nothing powering the car. So touching the two cables together should make no spark unless there is a charge left over charge in the system. And even if that's the case, it would a minor spark at the least. There would be no harm to the battery.
I think what he meant is to relieve all the electricity from the system and see if that will reset the ECU.
