I've got a 2000 Maxima SE with a manual transmission, and it slips out of fourth gear (into neutral) when I accelerate over 70mph. I have an appointment to get it checked out. I am wondering if anyone else has this problem?

Do you touch the shifter then it slips, or

does it slip by itself out of the gear.
I noticed that then I shift hard/fast and go from 2nd gear to 3rd, the moment I start the motion of the shifter it slips out by it self.
Doesn't really bother me though.

You tranny should NOT do that. Sounds like a broken detent spring(if your lucky). A worn syncro or maybe a worn sift fork but I really doubt that because your car is so new.

I don't bump the shifter. I can accelerate from 50-70, and it will pop out by itself.

Yep

I could see how this could happen. I have a 5 speed and have noticed that when you let off the throttle the shifter moves...it was more noticable in my dads 4th gen though! Mine moves a little....that might just be the culprit!
