Ok guys, this is my verdict.
The 02 Max is not all that it was talked up to be.
I drove a fully loaded SE auto without the Nav.
If no one told me there was a 3.5 under the hood, I wouldn't have noticed the difference. It has slightly better low end, but the high end is not as good as my 2k 5 speed. Us 5 speed owners know how the engine just RUSHES to the redline in first gear, but in the 2k2, I could not feel that. I am willing to bet that a 2k 5-speed is faster than a 2k2 auto.
The grille is too big. I like the bigger lower air dam, but the grille, it's just too big.
The instrumental panel, how come only the tach and the speedo is white? the gas and the tempeterature gauge is regular. What gives?
Throttle respense. My brother's 4th genration auto has better throttle response than the 2k2 auto. You know what guys, 4th gens. have very good and crisp throttle response, which makes the car feel very light. I could not feel that in the 2k2.
The price was $31k, without Nav. Holy ****!
With Nav, it will be $33k.
Hello Acura TL-S!!!!!!!!
I really think they ****ed up the front of the car. On the dealer lot, 2k2s were sitting right next to leftover 2k1s, and I tell you, 2k1s have better looking front ends.
You know what would have been the best?
Put the 2k2 headlights into a 2k1, leave the grille alone, and widen the lower air dam for that aggresive look.
That's what Nissan should've done.
2k2s ARE NOT worth trading in for.
Oh, did I mention that the car DOES NOT acclerate as fast as 255hp should ?

I'm hoping that we'll see the difference that the 255hp can make when it's mated to the 6 speed and the LSD. I'm thinking that the manual will be considerably faster than the auto in the 2002 (1.5 seconds to 60). It's all speculation until this winter though.

The 240hp 2k2 Altima equipped with a 5 speed manual has a
0-60 time of 6.28 seconds. The 255hp 2k2 Maxima equipped
with a 6-speed manual (and HLSD) is only about 41 lbs
heavier. It just seems very likely that the 2k2 Max
equipped with HLSD and 6spd manual should be able to
match the 2k2 5spd Altima's time of 6.28 at the very
least!
Has anyone seen the 0-60 time for the 2k2
6spd, HLSD-equipped Max yet?

Why is the Maxima still heavier if the Altima is bigger?

I think part of the reason that the Altima is lighter
(even if it is bigger) is that the Altima has a more
advanced, Skyline-derived, suspension system. That
system consists primarily of aluminum parts (versus
the steel in the Maxima). Can anyone else shed some
more light on this matter?

yo retard Acura boy...
(yeah you)
I have some news for you.
When ArcticMax said that the 2k2 Max/auto wasn't "all that" that was actually a very subtle bust on the Acura CL-S. The Maxima and CL-S now both have about identical horsepower, but the CL-S has an extra gear, but then the Maxima weighs a good bit less. So do you know what that means??
It means that the 2k2 Max/auto and the CL-S are about identical in terms of performance and that ArcticMax was really saying that the CL-S ain't all that too!!!
A 2k2 Max/auto will now be able to hang with and/or beat a CL-S. A 2k2 Max/6-spd will smoke the living shia out of a CL-S. And previous Max 5-spds will still hang with or beat you guys.
waaa waaa waaaaa.
Go home.

No what it means is the 6spd CL-S when released will smoke the 6sp Max hands down. I doubt that the new Max auto will beat me, since the previous gens auto or manual could hardly put up a fight. BTW the new Max is fugly, whoever pays that much for a Nissan needs to be shot!

Funny, the new road and track tests the 02 tls-s and got 0-60 in 7.0 flat. Thats sure sucks for a car of that price. Sure you have a cl-s so maybe its a bit lighter, so you as a non professional driver could probably get a 7.0 yourself. Now who should be shot.

I looked into getting an Acura CL Type S. Don't get me
wrong--- I drove one and it's a very nice car! But,
after doing some homework it turns out that the Acura
weighs 3510lbs that's about 286 lbs more than a 2k2 6spd
Max. Also, the cl-s is equipped with a single overhead
cam engine which means that although you get good low-end
torque a bit quicker you'll struggle a bit more at the
high end. I was also a bit suspicious of the 0-60 time
of 6.6 seconds (that figure is probably an optimistic
number reported by Acura), so the Road and Track tests
shed some light on that matter (0-60 in 7.0 flat for a
tl-s). Even if you mate a 6spd with that SOHC engine
(plus that extra 284 lbs), I don't think the cl-s will
be smoking the 2k2, 6spd Max. I also heard that a
supercharger will be available for the 2k2 auto-Max--- in
that case it will be the cl-s that will be getting smoked--
with or without a 6spd!
I'm going to get that 6psd, HLSD, Max SE as soon as it
becomes available!

well, the CL-S is indeed a nice car.
If you want an AUTOMAGIC, not a 5-speed, then for some people the CL-S is a better choice than the 2k2 auto Max, why? because:
1) CL-S got 5spd automagic, and it's at least as fast as the 2k2 auto Max.
2) The CL-S is priced the same as the 2k2 auto Max. Well, almost the same.
But I would never buy the CL-S because
1) I think it's ugly. It looks like a Solara.
2) What I'm looking for is speed, not 5spd tiptronics.
3) It's too expensive. ArcticMax got his '00GXE for 20.5k
4) I'd just get a cheap GXE and have the dealer put in a leather for $800 bucks. There's my luxury. That's all I want and all I need.
5) The VQ spoiled me. There is no better V6 on God's green earth.
I mean, what more luxury do you all need? what exactly are you guys refering when you say
"man, The TL and CL got luxury man!!"
We already got power windows, locks, and all that stuff.

OMFG, what a freaking retard you are...
You just have absolutely no grasp of things like math or physics, do you...
The 2k2 Maxima SE 6spd will weigh 3224lb when released, 37lb lighter than the auto tranny model at 3261lb. And assuming a 15% loss through the manual drivetrain the 2k2 Max with the VQ35DE should be putting down around 217 fwhp.
The CL-S on the otherhand weighs 3510lb with the 5-spd auto. I'll even be optimistic on the Acura and say that the 6-spd will be 70lb lighter so we'll call your 6-spd weight 3440lb. Assuming the same 15% drivetrain loss, the CL-S 6-spd would probably put down around 221 fwhp.
So does 4 fwhp make up for (3440-3224 = ) 216 lb of difference. Uh, I don't think so, but let's find out (not that you'd understand any of this, Acura boy)
2k2 Max 6spd: 3224lb / 217fwhp = 14.86 lb/fwhp <== BETTER
CL-S 6spd: 3440lb / 221fwhp = 15.57 lb/fwhp
Auto vs. Auto will now be dead even, and stick vs. stick the Maxima takes the cake. And we already know that all of the 00-01 Max 5-spds can beat an auto CL-S too...
You're such a retard, Acura boy. Why do you even bother posting here?

buddy...when I was STOCK, I beat my friend's CL-S by a carlength....and I only have a 4th gen.
The CL-Ss engine is WAY overrated in HP, if you line up a regular CL and a CL-S....the CL-S has a VERY hard time pulling on the CL. with 35 more HP it should pull on the reg CL about like a GP GTP pulls on a GP GT.

I just love cars...
Hey, like it's been said before, who gives a stool? Very few of us buy a car simply to accelerate faster than all the other cars on the road (and those who do probably have neither a Maxima or a TL/CL-S). There are so many intangibles that in the end it boils down to a matter of personal taste. Even if you had a 100 lane highway and lined up 50 maximas and 50 TL-S's, the fight over who's car is better would still go on. Give it up. You might as well argue over who has the best wife or girlfriend.
