MAF replaced, feels like new!

MAF replaced, feels like new!
Oh my god! I just replaced my MAF tonight and took my 2000 GLE for a spin afterwards. The beast feels like I put a brand spanking new engine in there.
I don't think I've ever experienced as much power from my engine in the entire time I've owned it -- so I've probably had a slowly dying MAF for over 2 years.
The following symptoms and problems are now gone:
first syptom, 2 years old:
- momentary "stutter" after putting car in drive and giving it a bit of load after a cold start (as if it skipped a beat)
started a bit later on:
- brief dip in power/acceleration at 3500 rpm
didn't notice it until the MAF was replaced:
- sluggish response
more recent problems, as the MAF got worse:
- surging, stuttering, stalling
- intermittent P0171, P0172 codes
- rough idle
- variation in engine power and performance at constant speed
- requires "babysitting" after cold start to convince the ECU not to stall out
- ODBII reported fuel trim >= 8-10% on both banks at idle, with occasional long term trim at 25%+.
My ECU reprogram is scheduled for tuesday morning. I realize I don't require the reprogram, but I presume there's new fuel maps for the updated sensor, which will only help power and fuel economy.
Short term and long term fuel trim are now both at -8 to -10%! That's quite the change from before. My air filter wasn't even particularly dirty when I replaced the MAF.
Thanks Dave B! You were dead on about it being the MAF. PS - Fedex got it here this morning, in one piece. They're even sending the GST/PST (taxes) bill seperately which means it didn't get delayed at Canadian customs.
YAY!

dude thats sick. yeah the guy who had mine had to replace his too. i hear that alot of people have to replace their MAFs bvecause nissan can't seem to get a good quality OEM manufactured. But then again alot of guys DO NOT need to replace. I guess it dpends on the car you have and how good its taken care of. I baby it now.

Same here Teflon. When my 02 se started having seriously long delays(only 10,000 miles) between shifts, I brought it to the dealer. They said it was a bad MAF and replaced it under warranty. It was like driving a totally different car.....very powerful and the tranny shifted like butter. A night and day defference.

that's great to hear the difference in your car! I'm positive mine isn't anywhere near going bad, because it runs like new still ...but when it does go bad, thanks to the .org, i'll know what is the cause!

How much did Dave B charge for a 2000 MAF and how much does a regular dealership charge? Also, is there a write up for changing it out? Thanks

so when i get a new maf and change it out, is there anything else i should do?
or is it just plug and play, and drive?

More importantly is there a way to tell what version you've currently got so you don't waste your time with an update you don't need?
My MAF was replaced once and I believe (but am not sure) there was an update done of some sort. This was before I owned the car. I think it needs replaced again. Would you be able to tell if you've currently got an updated MAF off the part number?

what part number is the 2000 MAFS? I know the entire thing is 22680-AD200, which has been superceded by 11680-AD201, but does anybody know the part number for the element alone? I don't want to spend the extra 300 dollars for the tube. Also, does anybody have Daveb's number?

2002 MAF Failure
I have had the MAF fail twice since I had the car (2002). Once was under warranty. Does anyone know why the older 2000 or so MAFs are like 80 bucks and the ones for 2002 are 450? I can attest to the fact they are not a quality part and surely not worth the total 600 bucks the dealer charges to R&R the thing.
My latest problem is that it dies when the AC is on at idle. It starts back up fine. It just seems the idle is too low or the idle kick-up for the AC is not working all the time. Anyone with thoughts on this would be a great help.

My 2K GXE had the exact same problems. It's at the dealership right now...I'm going to have to sale and arm and a leg to get it back. I had taken it to AutoZone and got P0171, 0172, 0174 codes and was going to replace the O2 sensors but I didn't do it right away and then the symptoms got really bad...like I could have had a really bad accident trying to get on the hwy this weekend...the car just wouldn't move...the rpm was high but I was getting not action. I'm hoping mines is going to feel like a spankin' new engine too.
