Your owner's manual recommends replacing your plugs with platinum tipped ones. NGK PFR5G-11 are OEM and that what I just put in to my 2000. The old plugs looked worn but okay otherwise and I'm happy with the new ones.

NGK platinums. Good for 60K+ miles. Unless you are supercharged, have a turbo, or have a nitrous system (then use Iridums) go for platinum.

I know this has been asked numerous times in other threads but no one (not even NGK website) states what the approx. mileage is for the G-Power Plats. Any ideas? Anyone?

OEM are supposedly 100k right? (5.5 gen)
V-Power I recall is 30k
G-Power ??
Titanium ??

don't mess around with g-power or any of those other ones - stick with NGK plats. you're not going to get added performance from a spark plug, so stick with what works (unless you have FI)

I'm not concerned with gains. That has been a mute point for years as well as on every thread people post that on. I do not believe in HP gains from plugs alone. What I want to know is what is the expected mileage out of G-power plugs. They are $5.99 a piece and they are NGK.

Hell, overseas stock recommended plugs in most Nissan's are Champions NOT NGK.

I owned 3 SR20's over a 13+ year period. I always used copper V-power as replacements for the 2 '91's and for the '96 even though the owners manual stated platinums for the '96 and I cant even remember what the '91 owners manual stated. Just because the owners manual stated recommended doesnt mean **** to me. ALL NGK's are AWESOME PLUGS!

All I want to know is what mileage is expected out of the new G-power plugs.

And just for reference, directly out of owner's manual

Always replace spark plugs with recommended
or equivalent ones.
I consider V-power, G-power, and Titanium "equivalent" to OEM Platinum

Even if you overpay for platinum plugs like $12 apiece and you run them for only 50k miles which is half of what you can, you're paying something like $00.00144 a mile to run them.

Think of it this way - even if you buy Iridium plugs (for example) which dont have to be replaced for around 160k km (i think), are you really going to wait that long? Buy the plugs you know will work.. don't worry so much about the mileage you're going to get out of them. My opinion, your may differ of course.

I guess that is my point. All of the NGK plugs I've listed will work. My question is somewhat a generalized question about the newer NGK plugs. From what I recall, not too long ago the NGK platinums only lasted 60k not 100k. What caused that increase in life span?

I purchased the G-power plugs a couple of days ago with an assumption that they will last me 50k-60k, not based on hard facts. My '02 has 90k on it now and is still running the OEM Plats. I rarely have let any of my previous cars run the full interval with one set of plugs, so this is a first for me.

That being said, I feel confident that the G-power plugs will do just fine. I was just curious to know if anyone has read up anywhere what the expected lifespan of them are.

Also, in reply to your example using iridium plugs. They only cost $6.99 a plug. So in most to all cases I would be more inclined to purchasing them before cranking out $9.99 or more for he platinums. So it would make sense for people to purchase those over the plats just based on cost factor alone.

60k miles is correct (sorry, i was talking kilometers).

6.99 for NGK iridium's? Strange.. there's obviously a lot more to this spark plug industry than I'm aware of - I was always under the impression a high-quality iridium plug was quite costly..

I ordered the G-Power plugs from Advance Auto Parts. Had to purchase new wires for the wifes Protege 5, so I ordered the plugs at the same time to get free shipping.

Shows all prices for all NGK plugs...

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductL...or=Spark+Plugs

If link does not work, go to www.advanceautoparts.com, choose 2002 Maxima, then spark plugs. It will list the prices.

I'd go with NGK V-power copper plugs. Better start up since copper is a better conductor of electricity. Platinum is only good becuase of the high interval change. If you don't mind changing the plugs every 30k miles go with the copper ones. But thats just me.

I personally don't want to be screwing around with wires, coils, etc, more than I have to. It's just more of an opportunity for something to go wrong regardless of how careful one is.

I have no problems at all starting and running my car under any condition with the OEM platinum plugs Nissan specifies that I just installed. The originals came out at 95k miles looking just fine for their age and it's going to be quite a while until I have to worry about the new ones, if ever.
