6-speed swap (people who care only)

This thread is for people who care about the swap only, if you want to talk about Mathell PM me please. this is information, not a law discussion

Parts needed:
1) manual ECU
2) manual axles (both)
3) 6Speed trans
4) shifter assembly
5) clutch pedal assembly
6) brake pedal assembly
7) clutch master cylinder
8) clutch hydraulic lines
9) clutch slave cylinder
10) anti-lock brake unit mount
11) shifter cables
12) shift mount, ****, bushings etc
13) manual wiring harness(could be optional, not sure)
14) transmission mount
15) shift boot assembly
16) manual starter

The swap I guess was mostly like a 5-speed swap, I didn’t do it myself so I can give step by step instructions, but I can say some quirky things that need to be done.
1) Trans mount must be CUT off the frame, then the manual trans mount must be either welded or bolted on in its place.
2) Old shifter cable may have to be cut to be removed.
3) Neutral safety switch must be jumped in order for the car to start, place a fuse or a jumper or item of your preference where needed in the place of the NSS relay.
4) Immobilizer unit must be reprogrammed for the new computer
5) New starter must be installed because the auto one is not correct
6) Wiring harness may or may not be needed, I got a new one and mine runs now, so…
7) My flywheel was damaged and caused a lot of headaches, so make sure you have a working flywheel

I am very interested in this. I plan on doing it myself, but out of curiousity, do you mind if I ask how much you payed for parts and labor.

Isn't the tranny mount already bolted to the frame? Why do you have to cut it off?

you have to cut the AT one off because it is different from the MT one.

GLE03, it was 6-7k, but thats with 5.6 times the labor cost than i signed on. you should be able to get 1000 labor.

make sure you look at the flywheel, i didnt see anything first and neither did my mechanic. but when i got it back i looked and saw a really obvious problem.

^ good god x 2

i'm going to state the obvious... you would been much better off selling your car and buying a manual maxima..

unless the auto took a crap and needed replacing.. but even then the above would probably still apply...

but hey, its your money.. enjoy the freedom

add to the list, the cover that goes above the heatshield that protects the bit of shifter assembly that sits below the floor.

People, his car had been out of commission for the swap for several months. This is becuase there were a few nearly un-noticable problems (as laid out in the first post) that they could not get past. That is why it cost him so much money. Have fun hooper with the swap. Your car ran a 14.3 as an auto right? It should be much quicker now!

then search his posts yourself. Click on his name and "Find more posts by Hooper". He's posted several things about his 6-speed swap.
