CODES Please Help!!! P0420 & P0440
So I got a MIL and went to have the codes pulled at autozone...
P0420... this is apparently infamous because I have been reading the thread on it. However, I am confused. If my car is not a California emmisions car will the 8/80 Federally required warranty still apply. Has anyone in NY had there cars worked on for this code under warranty here? If so, which dealership and who can I speak to? The car only had 64k miles. I don't want to have to buy a new cat. Too broke for that.
P0440...EVAP Control System Small Leak... I can't seem to find much on this. Can someone please help me with this one.
The car has been driving horribly with a lot of feedback on the accelarator. It feels like I have to push it harder for it to go. Its an auto by the way. Any suggestions?

8/80 still applies to cats on fed cars. Most likely you don't need a cat though. There is a service bulletin for p0420 that the rear o2 needs to be replaced and the ecm needs to be reprogramed to correct. Much cheaper than a cat. As far as p0440 check and make sure your gas cap is tight. As what I have seen is the canister vent valve does not have a proper seal this could be the problem. I can't be 100% sure because I can't give you a full diag over the internet for p0440

Check under the hood for an obvious loose/damaged air hose at the area of the rear valve cover and intake manifold near the TB. Failing that, I would head over to a dealer and I think you should be covered by the Fed. Emissions Warranty, but I don't have my Emissions Warranty Booklet handy. Because of your low mileage I doubt that it's a cat problem. The two codes may be connected. The EVAP code may be essentially a "vacuum leak" caused by an EVAP system problem and this is dumping too much O2 into a cat. Other codes may eventually be set. Try a good dealer, maybe someone can recommend one in your area.

If your car is fed spec, it is covered under warranty.
I went to my local dealers.. they bsd the hell out of me... and made me pay 102 dollars in the end.
A call the nissan hq.. and I have my reimbursement check in my hands.
P.S. here's my thread with links to everything you need to show them:
