Climate Control Temperature Adjustment

Climate Control Temperature Adjustment
My 2000 Max never seemed to achieve and maintain the temperature setting indicated on the display for instance on cold days it was always colder than the display ie: to get around 72 in the car, I would have have to set it around 78, on hot days for A/C I would have to set it around 68 to feel that it was around 72. Here is a procedure from the shop manual ( mine is a CD ) that allows you to adjust a “Temperature Setting Trimmer” It is on page HA-46 immediately following the self diagnosis procedures for the Automatic Climate Control system. Those procedures, BTW, allow you to check out the complete system from the drivers seat.
Climate Control Temperature Adjustment Procedure
1. Enter the self diagnosis mode: start the car and within 10 seconds press and hold the “OFF” button the display will light all elements This is step one of the self diagnosis procedure.
2. Go to step 5 by turning the temperature control clockwise stepping through the tests until the number 5 appears.
3. Press the Fan Up switch: This will set the A/C system in the Auxilary Mode and the display will show 61
4. Turn the temperature dial clockwise or counterclockwise: the temperature will change at a rate of 0.5 degrees C ( 1 degree F)
In my case as I was cold at a setting of 72 I set the trimmer at -6 I was then even colder I now have it at +6 and perhaps it is a bit too warm at the 72 setting, I will probably change it to a +5
Please note: That if power is lost ( like if you disconnect the battery ) to the A/C Auto Amp the trimmer setting is canceled and setting become that of initial condition.
