My 2001 died on the highway...now won't stay running

Help guys...

I was driving home today and was accelerating on the interstate when the car cut off on me. I was able to get off the side of the road and had it towed home. There is no CEL showing and it will restart...but it will only run for a couple seconds before shutting off. I was thinking MAF but I'm not sure it matches the symptoms.

Can anyone help me? I need to get this thing fixed ASAP so any help is appreciated.

If you have a voltmeter, you could rule out the battery and alternator. Measure the voltage before you start the car. It should read 12-13 volts. Measure it again after you start the car. If it's between 13.5 to 14.5, then your problem could be something else. If the reading is 12-13 volts and starts to drop, then you shold get your battery and alternator checked. Ususally the battery and brake light on simultaniously indicates a bad alternator but I've heard of people having bad alt without the warning lights.

The problem could be something else but it doesn't hurt to check.

Yep...MAF blew. I unplugged it tonight and the car started right up and stayed running. Of course, the car won't rev higher than about 2200 RPM but I'll swap out the MAF tomorrow. Thanks for the input!

Definitely the MAF. Alternator/Battery problems, after the car sits and has cooled down it will run like normal again until a rainy day when the lights, defroster, wipers, etc. are all going. Other typical problems would probably throw some kind of light, but my buddy had a gtp where this is exactly what happened. Car cut out, and then when he actually got it start again, it was only a short while before it would stall.

A lot of MAF sensor problems recently on the 5th gens.
