People get confused into thinking it does something because the theory behind it is sound. Nevertheless, practical gains > theoretical gains.

If you think that dyno comparison is valid you've completely lost it.

Horrible example. I challenge you to find a similar comparo ANYWHERE on this site showing those kinds of gains.

I don't know these stupid udp threads always make it into 2-3-4-20 pages. Once again, Here's my .02 cents on the issue.

I have a few buddies who race circle track. They laugh at the noobies using these.
IF they made such an improvement why hasn't import magazine, FF&MM, Sport Compact, etc EVER done an article with a before/after dyno of ONLY a UDP install?? That would increase the sales of their advertisers, making them more moeny.. Since unorthodox paid for this guys dyno, I'm sure they would be more than willing to pay FF&MM or Sport Compact for the costs incurred ....They have advertisements all over the place for these things, and they even show gains with headers/udp, intake/udp, heads/udp, etc...BUT never only udp before/after dyno. Why not? They don't want to lose that advertiser, period. There are some UDP before/after dynos, mostly on the web, but never back to back AND in the same conditions.
Advertisers of Unorthodox (UDP manufacturer) and Unorthodox themselves even have conflicting info. Some of their retailers claim the slight gains are from the weight; some claim the majority are from the size.. They can't even do that right.
Once again since everyone pulls out this same stupid link lets break it down.

1.)He took his best/worse dyno's
2.)Unorthodox PAID for the dynos, enough said.
3.)They where done @ different dates over a month apart, with different atmospheric pressures, and several different conditions.
4.)The "before" run results where the worse of the three. The one he used had worse results than his third one when he had his A/C on! unreal.

I could go on....(the magazine thing alone should give it away)
Show me an unbiased, privately done before/after UDP dyno showing any gains and I will go away.
The manufacturers spend billions to get that extra 1 mpg or beat the competator by 2 horsepower with the same size motor. If this really worked why aren't the manufacturers doing it?

Go buy a tornado. It will be less money thrown in the trash.

I dont have a before and after dyno, but I have the the UR Pulley. Not significant gains, but I trapped the same mph a few weeks ago in the summer as I did during the winter seasons. This could have been affected by humidity though.

I'd post my times, but my car is still slow. I only got the pulley for rewarding myself for completing something. I did the Ypipe and intake way before the pulley, I did some reasearch before the purchase.

no one on this forum dynos evertime they put on a modd, i have never dynoed.

i have looked through other honda, camero and mustang forums and they saw improvments, not very high improvements but the 2-4 horses isnt bad for 100$ and 2hrs of your time..

We're looking for average gains here. 2-4 HP is within the realm of run-to-run variation on the dyno and changes in conditions so those numbers still don't mean a thing. We need at least 3 runs with and 3 runs without the UDP on the same dyno on the same day to be able to really tell if gains are there are not. Until then, all this is .

Oh btw, if it doesn't show up at the track on average, no care. Practical > theoretical.

how does revving quicker equal more power? It just means the throttle response is a little faster. UDP's don't add horsepower! Therefore revving faster doesn't add horsepower. I have a UDP and my engine runs far smoother with less weight on the crank and it has a slightly quicker throttle response but by no means did it add the amount of horsepower clamied by the company who made it. And even though it cost me 200 bucks and didn't add 8-10 horsepower or whatever they claimed I'm not going to put my stock pulley back on. There is a difference in how the engine feels and I will stick with the aluminum pulley.

Because your gearing does not change with the addition of a pulley.

i have wanted the SC pulley but noone has shown a positive response with it.

I dont even know if anyone has gotten it
everyone just gets the UDP

The udp IMPO is a bad idea for anyone who lives is a HOT state like me in Florida. I am totally dependant on my ac and dont want to have to turn the stereo ad amps of the run the ac. I have heard REAL horror stories about alternators blowing resisters due to undervolatge problems.

The difference between the UDP and the SC is maybe 2 horses. i dont think anyone can feel that.

I live in Florida too. No problems with a/c at all. I use it everyday b4 and after the pulley change. I'm not saying it wont happen, but the people I know in person who have done this mod on their respective cars havn't hand any A/C problems.

If anything that would be from the lack of resistance from the accessories (duh ) What does that prove though?

Not as a daily driver like the guy that started this thread is, and it will over heat very fast without a waterpump running

Good lord you're dense. The water pump is chain-driven.

Adding the crank pulley can be a little deceiving compared to other mods because there isn't a definite surge anywhere in the powerband, so the seat of the pants dyno is no good here. To verify the increases we headed up to R & D dyno to measure the results. There's a progressive gain in power of 2-3 hp from 2-4K RPM, after this the increase in hp is approximately 4-5 until 5K RPM where we gained 6.5 hp over stock and 3 lb ft of torque.

Who said there isnt any gains from a pulley?

No SAE correction no care. It might have simply been a cooler day with higher barometric pressure. Was the baseline dyno performed on the same machine as the UDP dyno?
