Went to the stealer to get O2 sensors replaced and they recommended a few things:

a) they want to replace the "rear i-beam rod"...wtf is this? and why the hell is it $935.

b) replace transmission fluid and filter

From my understanding and from searching the forums, or trannys don't have a filter? its' just a screen? Does that really have to be replaced? i was just going to do a drain/fill myself with Mobil 1 instead of giving them $150 to do it.

What track was this at?

And drop the damn caps, though I don't think you'll be around here much anyway.

Hello,

I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima (Automatic, Without Traction Control). The Nissan Part # apparently is 2371M-5Y006RE. A couple of questions....

(1) How would I know if the part # has been superceded by another part #?
(2) Would any other years fit a 2001 Nissan Maxima?

I've been searching high and low for a reasonably priced ECM, but have come up empty.

Please help.

Alright, I figured I'd put my first post here. Hopefully someone can help me out.

I have a 2000 Maxima GLE with 93k miles. It recently had starter motor issues, but I had the motor replaced. A few days ago, I had a hard start. I heard the starter motor whirring but the engine wouldn't turn over. I tried it again and the engine finally started, but the SES light came on and hasn't gone off since. The car drives fine and I can't feel anything wrong mechanically.

I went to Advance Auto Parts today to check the codes. I received the following two:
I've searched around and found out information about these two codes, but what does it mean to have them in conjunction with each other? What should I do to fix the problem (besides going to the dealer)? Needless to say, the most inexpensive option is the best option since I don't have a lot of cash at the moment.

Help would be MUCH appreciated!

My system is stating 23710-5Y000 as your ECM part #.

Hey all I'm new here obviously. Just wanted to say hi and figured this would be the best place to say it. I have a 2001 Maxima with around 92,000 miles. Its an auto (not my choice but couldn't pass up the deal = free) GLE I want to say but I don't know for sure. I have been reading around but can't really find a good answer; what is the best first starting mod? I just want some more power and pick up.

thanks and I look forward to talking to you all some more.

Hey guys,

I bought a 00 Max GLE a couple weeks ago as my first car and I love it. Quick question though: my rear window shakes when I play slightly loud music with a lot of bass. I feel like this is a safety issue. I've noticed it getting worse in the past week because it shakes even without music, on bumpy roads or on speed bumps in general. What should I do? Should I silicone it up, or is there a different procedure?

Cheapest and most beneficial, imho, is just a basic short ram or cold air intake. You'll get a little bit more throttle response and see a little improvement in your gas mileage as well.

Is my car haunted?

I have a 2003 SE. For the past week or so I go out to the car and find the front windows down varying amounts. It is parked in the garage. I looked to see if the windows can be put down or up using the keyless entry, but it appears they cannot be. This also seems to happen in the middle of the night. I have gone out to the garage at 2 AM and they are up, but in the morning they will be down. Is there a logical explanation for this?

Thanks,
Mike

Just signed up to this place today. I have an '01 i30 but that section doesnt have one of these threads so I figured Id post here.

Just bought my '01 i30 two days ago. I used to have a '96 i30 but unfortunately it was stolen.

Anyway, I got this car cheap so obv there are a few problems. One problem is the drivers side door sags. Since im a noob to finding parts for this thing right now, I have no idea where to look... any ideas? (havent found anything on ebay)

secondly, my passenger side window is messed up. It has that saftey feature where if when its being auto rolled up and it hits something it drops back down about 5 inches or so. Well its doing this when it gets to the closed postion, so i assume it thinks its hitting something. I looked at the top of the rubber and the only thing i can see is that a 1 inch section is folded up. It seems very insignificant but could this be the problem? If so, how do I get it back out? it looks like its been folded up for a while and is basically stuck in that position.

thanks for any help.

Other than eBay you can buy new. Search online and you'll find thousands of parts sellers or call Dave Burnett. You can find his contact info by searching this site. He'll usually give you the best price as well as useful info on what you need. Courtesyparts.com is a site that many people use. Or go to the junk yard and get what you need.

The window problem is a known problem that has been discussed on this site. You have to reset the window control. Do a search.

How exactly do these things work? I saw them on NWP's website, but I wasn't sure.

Sorry. I feel like I should be in this thread now.

Teddie, any idea what extension he's at there? I called up the South Point recently and he's not even listed (I don't think anyways) in their site directory. Another David.....David Barron, is listed.

Any idea?

Steering wheel firmness

The steering wheel used to be a bit difficult to turn which was a bit annoying. I asked the service dept what could cause this and if it was adjustable. They said that it's not adjustable and that noone else has had this complaint (wheel hard to turn).

But I noticed now that the steering wheel is easy to turn again. Any ideas what could cause the steering to become difficult (since the service dept just acts like I'm losing my mind)?

Call 1-888-254-6060 and ask for Dave Burnette. There are two Daves. Dave Barron and Dave Burnette. He comes highly recommended.

P.S. I meant to say in my first post that you have to reset not rest the window control.

Yeah they look fine now, but I asked the service dept if the power steering fluid levels affected how difficult it was to turn the wheel and they said no. Were they misinformed/lying?

I wish I could create my own thread tell you guys how great this place is.

I bought an '01 i30 on Thursday night (5/21) so I got to start looking at the problems this past saturday. With the help of this site Ive already taken the foggyness out of the headlights, ordered new LEDs to replace the burnt out bulbs in my analog clock, and reset the passenger window because it was lowering about 5 inches when using the "Auto" switch.

Only been signed up for like 3 days and I love this place already... haha.

One of the trunk lid support bars?

...No, you can't solder it back in place. Typically, solder has a shearing point of what, 20 pounds of force?

You could weld it back up, but it would likely be easier and have a better result if you just got another one.

How the hell did you break it? Pics?

I bought a FSTB from Ebay (prob not the best decision now) and am pretty disappointed. It seems like the threading on one screw AND on one side of the strut bar. I was wondering what I can do to possibly fix this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Where exactly does it not fit?

FWIW a friend bought a strut tower bar for his A33B from eBay, didn't fit. Still have the thing sitting in my trunk, bolt pattern on the strut towers was completely off.

2002 slow start no tach

Camshaft pos. sensor was replaced under wty at 80K. At 98K, was told that my battery was on its last legs, which I promptly forgot about. Week later, car stopped while driving. Wouldn't turn over. Slow start with a jump, got new battery--still slow start. Autozone said camshaft pos. sensor--odd 'cos I wasn't having the hesitation probs I had before repalcing it the first time. My mechanic also got the CSPS reading and it also read vehicle speed sensor. Mech noticed tach not working. Replaced both sensors. Still slow start and no tach. Both codes still showing. Mech. cleared/erased codes, did the magic on/off with key, press gas pedal etc and checked tghe wires. No change. Runs great once I get it started, it just cranks for 10-15 seconds (sometimes only 5 secs) before it starts. Anyone know what else this could be?

follow up 5-28-09: Turns out it was the crank pos sensor. The one my mech put in wasn't a Nissan part. I got a Nissan sensor put in and problem is solved!
