Just curious: Whats the best way to launch an 02 with an automatic transmission? Read something about a technique called "power braking" which supposedly applies to all cars with auto trannies, and was wondering if thats the ideal way to do it? (if so whats the best rpm to do it at?) Or do you guys just floor it while trying to limit wheelspin as much as possible. Sorry for such a noobie question, but this is my first car and thought itd be a better idea to ask it here than to ask someone like my dad...

Powerbrake and your tires will go up in smoke out of the hole. Better to just flash the converter (no powerbraking) at about half throttle and keep the tires on the verge of wheelspin as you push towards full throttle. I usually don't have my foot buried until about 25 mph or so due to wheelspin.

My car seems to have lost its ooomph lately, I remember how It used to have alot of torque steer, and I realized there is now barely any, and sometimes none. I am almost at 60,000,

should i take my car to a shop, what do you look for in a situation like this anyway ? maf, spark plugs ? could be anything really right ?

Just looking to narrow it down to the problem, where should i start ?

No codes, I take it-otherwise you would have mentioned them, right?

Start with the basics. You need air, spark and fuel for the engine to run. Change the air filter and plugs and you might need to (although Nissan says you normally don't) change the fuel filter.

I did I search to bring back jack **** on this topic so I decided to post it here.

do any of you have any recommendations for a good after market clutch? I have a 5th gen 5 speed that seems to be hiccuping when I shift it into gears from time to time.

I have a '02 with the Canadian gage cluster, kms instead of miles. The trip computer shows average speed, and all that stuff in kms. Is there a way to change that to MPG and MPH? Same for the auto climate system, it's in Celsius, can it be switched to Fahrenheit? Wondering if this can be changed, or is it built in part of the cluster that's not changable with the push of a button... Thanks

where the covering meets the rubber....use a razor to cut along that line.
then start peeling it from the other side where it wraps around

i remember in the FSM that there is a way to do it.
for the climate control, you have to enter the diagnostic mode on it and you can change it.
the guage info is controlled in the ECU and can also be changed....need the OBD i think

What do you mean by "need the OBD i think"??? I have a OBD II scanner, but as far as I know it's only for checking what the engine codes are, so I'm guessing this OBD stands for something else?

EDIT: Thanks for the answers in the previous post, I'm looking though the FSM right now. Soooooo much info!

Ahh, alright. Thanks for helping out anyways. I doubt I'll go that far to convert it. I was thinking maybe there is a combination of buttons to push in order to change it.

Found all the information I needed, thanks for leading by example. Senior members should really set a better example for new people, but who am I to voice my opinion here?

ok so here's the problem with my car. when i come to a complete stop, sometimes the gas pedal will get stuck (not really stuck, but you'll have to press on it kinda hard so it'll go) and i was wondering what was wrong with it. i heard from a friend that you'd have to buy some sort of fluid and put it in but the only fluids i can think of are the transmission and steering fluids... which doesn't make sense at all. any body knows what's wrong with my car??

Since odds are the compressor is 7 years old, I'd replace that too. No sense replacing just the clutch on a compressor that old, IMO.

is it awkward that my SES light went off by itself a week after my catalytic converter unclogged itself. i bought this car almost a month ago, with it being extremely sluggish to it now feeling like its in top shape performance, and as of yesterday, my SES light took the liberty of being off.

anyone have this 'privilege'?

and no i have not changed anything, not even the spark plugs in this car yet.

Service Engine Soon Light

I've done some looking around and the info that used to be in the "Got check engine light...what should I do?" thread is no longer there, so can somebody help me out?

I have a 2002 6 speed SE and start it up today and notice my service engine soon light is on. I had the 0011 and 0021 codes pop-up about 9 months ago but cleared them and they haven't come back since. Can someone provide me with the procedure to check the codes once again as well as the procedure to clear the codes? Also, a listing of the codes if you have it.

Thanks!

first off what year is your car? since the 5th gens 2000-2001 are throttle by cable and the 5.5gens 2002-2003 are throttle by wire. You might wanna clean out your throttle body that might help and thats what is probably wrong with it
