Heat shield from catalytic converter fell off

Riding back from Bigg's I got on it and started to hear a rattle. Little more and clang!

Found this a 1/8 mile back:

The welds broke off. Can this just be welded back on at an exhaust shop?

That is what I meant. As opposed to the heatshield coming off the brackets, the brackets rusted off the car. So you advise me to leave it alone? The cat won't overheat?

the heat shield is not to protect your car, its so you dont set a field on fire driving through tall dry grass...

Note to self: Don't drive through a field of tall, dry grass.

Or through a field of oil-soaked, wet grass either. In other words, stay away from my old engine...

It's better off than on....unless you park on tall dried-up grass!!!!!! It seemed to be more of a rock collector on my truck more than anything else! You don't really need it!
