I'm still wondering if somebody could help me with MCA4 CD (for i35 – 2002). I’m gonna hit the road this weekend. I only have the MCA3 CD, and I'll be driving from Nebraska to Texas.
disney... What sort of car do you drive? And have you been to the Crayola factory recently?! (yep, been to Easton before)
*L* Haven't been to the Crayola factory in years...
I drive an '01 Q45...It's a fine car! I just need updates for MCA8 as some things are not even on the maps.... Thanks!
The bad thing is the fact that even the updated discs don't have everything on the maps, and I'm talking MAJOR things. The Q may need the update disc, btw.
hey guys i have the infiniti update cd if anyone needs it to be uploaded...i am almost certain that nissan and infiniti are different when it comes to the updates, however all the maps work the same. my update cd came with precise instructions for my vehicle, i had to follow Qx4 specific instructions. listed right next it to it were i35 instructions and they were completely different. Barc, i noticed too that 5.5 is pretty bad when it comes to missing things, my moms BMW has DVD nav and has everything down to home addresses whereas our navs only give us main roads....hopefully 5.6 will be a little more in depth
It seems to me that its the luck of the draw. I've been in some areas where roads clearly should have been on the map and weren't but other areas where roads were on the map but I thought there would be no way they'd be on there... and I'm talking paved, 4-lane roads vs. DIRT roads (yep, my Max has been in some pretty "interesting" areas; my sig pic is at the VLA in New Mexico). I don't know why Zenrin chooses the roads it chooses but it is very inconsistent. Maybe 5.6 will be better but I doubt it will be much different.
Edit:
Very strange that the updates would be different unless they changed the OS or something from 01 to 02. It could be that it isn't that Infiniti is different but that the Q is different... It may be special!

I just stumbled upon this thread via a google search. I have a 2001.5 Pathfinder LE which came with a v5.1 MCA6 CD, but it's been having problems lately recognizing the disc. Not sure how the previous owner accomplished it, but the data surface of the CD has some hazy "stains" on it that cleaning it haven't helped. Guess they couldn't just leave the disc in the drive now, couldn't they? I tried burning a copy of it, hoping that my PC's drive would be able to read it well enough to make a good copy, but the navi doesn't recognize the burned disc at all. I may try resurfacing the CD with a "disc doctor" type thing and see if that helps.
What software are you guys using to make ISOs of your discs? Any special settings needed, e.g. read subchannel data, ignore read errors, etc.?
If I could be invited to download from the server, I would greatly appreciate it, and I could give up salvaging this old nav CD. My email address is scapeghost2004 AT h o t m a i l.com. If you could, also provide info on how I could participate in the group buy of 5.6 (whenever Zenrin gets around to putting it out there).
scapeghost, I use MagicISO. You can DL it for free and then "patch" it to make it work with large files. No special settings, however, make sure you aren't just doing a single file type of copy, it won't work. You have to make an exact copy of the entire disc (that includes the little boot sector on the disc), that's the key. I've attempted to use the boot sector from one disc and the data file from another and even that didn't work... and any number of other combonations of file / boot sector sort of burns. Anyway, let me know if that works out. If not, I'll see what I can do.
No dice I've tried Nero, Alcohol 120%, and now MagicISO... in each case, making an image from the disc (.nrg, .mds, .iso), then burning it at the lowest possible speed to Verbatim CD-R media. Tried a different PC/drive and media just to be sure. I'm making an "exact" disc image each time, not just copying the file structure. I'm beginning to think this disc is not recoverable. Maybe the previous owner left it in the sun on the dash or something. Still odd that the navi system recognizes it sometimes, but when it does it seems to take a long time to "boot".
Well the bad news is that I no longer have my Maxima. I traded it in this weekend. The good news is that I have a spare factory Navigation system and Bose head unit that I bought about a year ago. They are used but in perfect working condition. If anyone needs or wants them let me know.
Something is up with the FTP right now. I've tried to contact infinite (the guy who runs the site) but haven't had any luck. I think MCA9 5.5 is up but we just can't get to it right now.
Still looking for the newest backup for MCA-2. Any news on how the backups are proceeding? Also what's up with Zenrin on the next update...it's way past due isn't it????
Pack6544 and RockyMTNMarty. I tried to PM you both you but don't received PM's. Email me both at CobraFan@cox.net and we'll work out the details. I believe the disc is $120 plus shipping. That should be $40ea. I'll burn the copies and pay shipping. Thanks
Hi
I'm trying to replace a complete set of navigation cd's that have been stolen from my infiniti 2002 Qx4.If anyone can help with a backup copies.I'm more than willing to pay. Thanks Bob (rjgiza@comcast.net)
Is there any CD's still needed. I travel for a living and am bored alot I could take my laptop and hit up some local dealers on test drives to see what version they have and burn them while I test drive it. Let me know what cars and versions and regions of CDs are left I'll try to help out.
Just thought of another question. My 02 has the Nav unit whats the best way to replace the factory tape so I can have a real system in there, going to the trunk to swap CD's sucks and I'd much rather just hook up an Ipod or storage device that I can have all my music on. If I can't find anything I guess I'll just sell the nav unit but it's kinda nice to have sometimes.
