Okay, I'll beat MadMax to the punch (although I shouldn't since he's helping me put on my y-pipe!)but he can supplement with his info.

We Went to the track tonight at his suggestion. It was my first time tonight with the Max (and first time ever). Fully stock. My best time of the night of 4 runs. . . 15.106 @ 92.87. It was nice and cool down here in Florida (relatively speaking) so I'm sure that helped. Had trouble with the launch (of course). Think it could break 15 with a great run.

Be interested to see what others are running.

My first time i did a 15.3 @ 93, my second time i did a 14.9 @ 94 100% stock. Copy this link and paste it in your address bar to see the timeslip, http://members.nbci.com/sprunglove/max14.9.html

So my advice would be to try again. I haven't run again since then, now I have a Stillen intake and a DC meet at the track next Fri so we'll see. Good Luck.

Ah...beat me to the punch!

Ive gotta say, for Max Gators fist time EVER at the track, his runs were impressive! His times were pretty much what my Maxima stock ran on the same track and Ive made a gazzilion runs in differing cars. Very impressive I think! Temps were in the lower 70's tonight, which was quite nice. Hopefully, we will get some nightime 50's soon for good track times......

As an aside, I just installed the Cattman Y-pipe and the Place Racing CAI and made a few runs along with Max Gator tonight. My best was a 14.84@94.94 mph. Traction was tough, but I did manage a 2.33 60 foot eventually by leaving at 2500 rpm and riding the clutch out spinning the whole way. Strangely enough, this method provided the best launch. The car most definitely pulls alot harder now than when stock as my trap speeds were up from their usual 92.5-93.0 mph (same as Max Gotor achieved tonight, keep in mind these are Florida runs, not made in the 40 F temps you northern guys get!)to almost 95 mph. The sound is also very cool!

The Cattman Y-pipe and CAI dynos will be run soon, as well as the Cattman and Stillen POP runs.

2K GXE 5-speed Track Times....

2000 GXE 5-speed....
100% stock...with 700 miles on the car...
Temperature: 61 degrees Farenheit.
Relative Humidity: 47
Absolute Barometer: 30.03

Best E.T.:
60' - 2.236 sec.
1/8 - 9.622 @ 72.97 mph.
1/4 - 14.936 @ 93.59 mph.

Also ran:

14.969 @ 92.98 w/ 2.230 60'.
15.092 @ 92.73 w/ 2.289 60'.
15.126 @ 92.57 w/ 2.302 60'.

With each run my E.T. dropped significantly....
Took time to perfect the launch....

PS: This is a 100% stock 2K GXE 5-speed w/ a driver that is 6'6" 300lbs. (although the GXE is slightly lighter than the SE, I'm sure my size more than makes up for the difference)

Adam-

Your times are good! Max Gator's stock car would run about the same if we had cooler temps and better traction as his trap speeds were very similar to yours. Our cars could only muster low 2.3 sec 60 foots as the track didnt want to cooperate. (They were cheapskates and didnt put down enough VHT!) What rpm were you leaving at? Were you riding the clutch out? As I wrote above, I found that leaving at 2500 and riding the clutch out and spinning the tires rather heavily was giving the best short times, strange as it seems.

The Y-pipe and CAI do work however, as I added 2-3 mph to my trap speeds. Im sure I could hit 14.7's with better traction. Heck, if we could get low 2.2 60 foots like you did, Id be in the 14.6's and Max Gator's stock car would have been 14.9's! Max Gator will be remeding that situation today as we are putting the Y-pipe and Stillen intake on!

Waiting for some 50 degree temps.......

Only problem with cooler temperatures is that you lose a little traction, right?

naaaaah....that launch is WAAAY too low!!

after my 4 consecutive runs, i found that every time i raised the launch rpm, my 60' dropped....

my last & best run (14.93) was made toggling the rpm between 4500-5000 rpm and riding the clutch out w/ very little, if any, wheel spin.

i was able to get consistent 2.230 60' times with this technique (not too bad...but im sure w/ more track time i will lower that considerably)....

I'm quite confident 14.80's are possible all stock.

Nice Run Larry "Madmax" !

Nice run Larry those 14.8s, I wish my Max wich is A/T you know, would have run on the 15.5s average, but here in Puerto Rico with 85-90 Temps year round it's hard. They dont bring 5speed Max to PR, but anyway most of the competition are the same except the Integras, Civics, and Celicas wich they give me a very hard time around. Im waiting for your test of the YPipe/CAI + YPipe/POP Filt.
Ill give you my numbers after I recive the Stillen Hyflow Filt. Again NICE RUN ! Keep up Body.

Let me know how your clutch lasts with that type of launch! With my 2500 rpm launches and riding the clutch, at the end of the run an onvious clutch smell was present. I thought about launching higher, by didnt get a chance to do so.

But, next time out at the track, Ill try to 5000 rpm ride out and see what happens. A low 2.2 60 foot would net 14.6's or lower if the temperature cooperates.

Frequently yes. Its best if the day is warm and sunny, which heats up the track. The track will hold the heat for a while after sundown, where its then beneficial for cooler temps. I am hoping for a nasty cold front to come through in the afternoon so we'll have an 80 F sunny day and 50F cool clear night!

This is how I launch....

I found this works good IF you've got good tires. My 60 foots are still in the upper 2.3 to 2.4 range, but I'm running on my stock on-the-wear-lines 215/60R15 RSAs. I've experimented a lot and this works great on the street and will work great when I get new tires.

Rev up to 2500 rpms and on the 2nd amber let the clutch out just enough that you feel the car move and then quicky release the clutch and feed the car gas. The rpms will land right at 3000 or so and you'll take off. If I can get high 2.3s on bald RSAs, I'm sure this will be good for a lower 2.2s on good tires. PLUS, this a lot less abusive than riding out the clutch. I used to slip the clutch at anywhere from 1800-2200 rpms and all I'd get was horrible wheelspin. This new technique seems bog the engine just enough not to cause major spin.

Hey!! My 4DSC

Let's keep your max alive for the duration. With 700 miles an already at the track, I'd take the advice from some of the mechanics on this site. CHILL for a while till you pass your breakin period before DRAGGIN. Let those engine parts seat themselves. Then go back to the track, stomp on the gas an giv'em _ELL Yes! live life long and prosperous in MAX LAND!! Peace from HOTLANTA

aaaaaahhhhh....no need for a "proper" break in....
WHAT'S THE FUN IN THAT???

BTW: I'm not the type that keeps a car for 20 years.
My car will be long gone before the Warranty is up.
