Steering Wheel Stereo/Audio Controls

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the 2000 max is the only 5th gen that doesn't come with stereo controls on the left side of the steering wheel. Is it possible to mod it so it does? Pushing buttons on the panel is so inconvient.

The general consensus (as I remember it from previous discussions) is that it is not possible to replace just the steering wheel with a newer model or wire the controls on because our HU isn't designed to have another set of external controls. Don't quote me on that, but that's how I remember it.

In other words - you would have to replace your steering wheel and HU and then rewire both to work with your car. Let me know if you end up doing this and how much it costed as well.

Supposedly,

The 2001 pathfinder is the same steering wheel as that on the 2000 max and it comes with steering wheel controls. I never actually verifed the info because the steering wheel ran approx $600 if I remember correctly.

It is not going to be worth the expense in my opinion if you spend 5-6 hundred on a new wheel. I would just upgrade your stereo and get a remote.

on my '00 steering wheel, there's a cover that can be popped off on the left side, in the same area where my cruise control is on the right side. i had thought in the past that i could buy a sort of plug n play stereo control but someone had posted i couldn't. oh well

if you pop out that panel there isnt anything back there (ie wiring harness to plug in the controls)
