question about re-wire

Ok, so awhile ago I rewired my fogs using a writeup from a cardomain page. It said to attach the wire to the air conditioning wire that way I could turn them on whenever I wanted, regardless of whether the parking lights were on. So I did and it worked great. The other night I notices that my fogs still turn off when I put my high beams on. Is there a way to re-wire so that my fogs will stay on even with the highs and I can still turn them on and off whenever I please?

Yes, you have to bypass the relay. Off hand, I don't know which wire it is...but if you have access to a service manual, you can check the wiring diagram. When I had my '95, I did the same thing you are trying to attempt.

I don't know about laws in NY but it's illegal to have your fogs and high beams on at the same time. At least, down here it is.

Same in NY. I doubt that's going to stop anyone from doing it, though.

it's illegal to have more than 4 white lights running on the front of your car, but for those of us who have only have 2 headlights going when the highs are on (as opposed to the 02/03 which would have 4 headlights going with the highs) running the fogs should be ok-but I could be off of the laws, it's been a long time since I took driver's ed.

I think running the fogs/driving lights with the high beams on should be encouraged because they give a little more light to the sides of the road which could help you see animals etc entering the road sooner.

Yeah, to further explain my previous post, I had installed aftermarket fogs on my '95 to turn on/off via a seperate switch. I had bypassed the relay of the high beams so that I can keep the fogs on at all times if I wanted to. But, when inspection time came, I had re-wired them to cut off with the high beams. And, by no means, when I had them hard wired to stay on whenever I wanted, I had never ran them when I had the high beams on. Like, someone said before, this is illegal (eventhough I had them wired that way, I never ran them that way).

it could be illegal I never looked into the law books or anything though. I just thought it would help visibility a bit. Since your high beams focus more on distance and the side of the road, if I still had my fogs centered infront of me it would help a bit. Oh well I guess.

This would also be helpful in flashing slow drivers without lowering the lifespan of the hid fog bulbs
