Re: Help ( Transmission Problem )

Hello, I just had a bad transmission problem on my 02 SE. I was driving around town when all of a sudden my 3rd and 4th gear broke Do you guy know or anyone you know can recommend for me to have my tranny fixed and how much $$$ are we talking about. Also, AAMCO what do you think?

i dont know how, but i can tell you that when i drove the car today I can tell that the tranny wont shift from 3rd to fourth. The car was revving all the way up to 6000rpm and still no gear changes. I was stop and go in traffic and i cant manage to get the car moving past 3rd gear. I am thinking about taking my car to my local AAMCO and i dont know if there reliable as far as transmission repairs.

my friend in his 02 had the same problem, problem is we were in FLORIDA when it happened, (were from NY) car would shift from first to second then when came time for 3rd it would just shoot up in rpms. fortunately he was at 31k miles, so powertrian warranty was stilll in effect so nissan took care of it under warranty.

Mileage?

Your transmission is shot and needs to be replaced, mine had same failures at 53k miles.

Hello guys well i have 2 option. Option 1 is to get my tranny replaced or trade my car in. I dont really want to go to that route coz i feel like i am taking such a loss as far as power is concern. Now i heard that when you change your tranny that its necessary to have your radiator changed. Reason, there maybe bits and pieces of your old tranny being transferred to the radiator. Is this true??

hello paralyse since you had your transmission changed do you think your car is the same or not. Also, can you give me a estimate of what the whole tranny replacement and installation would cost me. I am thinking of taking my car to my local stealership since i know that they can do the job right or are they?? Well thoughts and opinions are welcome

as off rightnow i havent done any diagnosis on my car. Come on monday i'll be taking my car to my local stealership and hopefully that they can diagnose the problem. All i can tell you though is when i was driving on the freeway i noticed that my car would only shift from first to second and the rest the RPM would just bounce back and fourth till i let off the gas pedal. kinda funny that when it happened that i was about 60 miles away from my house and the whole time that my car is bouncing off the rev limiter coz it just wont switch to 3rd gear to 4th gear. I am glad that my engine did not over heat.

well my first gear and second gear works at least for now, hopefully that my gears wont follow to the same route. I was able to drive around town but the car would move but soon after it would just rev limit it way.

im leaning toward 4th apply band problem.

does third gear not work either? i was under the impression that it was slipping after third, going into 4th.

yes 3rd gear going to 4th gear does not work. Weird because since that power transmission fluid flush my tranny went down the hill. So fellow Org remember to not have your tranny power flush or be subjected to any shock just drain and fill.

who did the flush and how long ago was it?

flush is a maintenance item, if you dont flush it and get a lot of miles on teh fluid, its not a good idea to flush it.

so its fine up until the 3-4 shift?

There is a push button on the side of the gear shift to turn the overdrive off. The light for it will show on the dash that it is off.

Well guys i finally heard back from my local stelearship and i guess from what they have told me that my transmission cluthes is burnt and needs replacement. Unfortunately that i have 2 options on this. .1) is to have my tranny replaced ( Nissan Remanufactured) or .2) (rebuilt by my local shop) So of coarse i am sticking to the nissan part. Oh yeah, the cost is $ 2962.43 that includes the installation and the part plus i added that this will be my last nissan.

I'd shop around. Had similar problem with mine, but I've got a manual, and the dealership wanted about the same. Got it done at Cottman Trans. using all OEM parts and a warranty. 30K later still feels like new.

Really...the clutches? Have you ever had your TCM (transmission control module) replaced? I had similar symptoms on my tranny prior to having the TCM replaced. Depending on your mileage it could fall under warranty or a TSB (technical service bulletin). Yes there was a TSB issued for this type of problem. I second shabo99...I wouldn't be so hasty in what options the dealership gave you. Replacement of the TCM is a relatively easy process as well, you just have to drop the tranny pan and then the valvebody. I know someone has directions for that somewhere on here....

well guys i guess i finally have to suffer this one. I have left my car and will be picking it up this thursday. The only question that i have is what quality would i get from that remanufactured transmission from my local stealership? Would it be the same as when i first bought my car or would it be different.

hello i have one more question for you guys. Does Automatic transmission have breather hose? The reason i asked is i found a cut off hose right close to the tranny dip stick and just wondering if the person forgot to install the hose.

Yes it does have a breather hose and I would lookat putting in a tranny cooler, that is what most of us boosted guys do (I have 2 installed) and it might be over kill for you but better safe than sorry.
To buy the tranny cooler try Jegs.com and look at the B&M one. And yes it is very easy to install.
