i have been using directional tires on both of my car for years now and i notice that when they get down to 6/or 7/32nds they hum.... road noise is much more prominent... used falken zx512, pilot spors, bf goodrich, gforce and traction ta's, mohawk predator vrs(yokahama no name) which are all directional. when i bought the car it had michelen mx4m or something and these were not directional and never hummed..... any one else experience this and which do you prefer directional or non directional? i also rotate every 3000 miles and have a road force balancing every 10k 35/36 psi

Tread pattern has very little to do with "performance". Tire compound is much more important in that respect. Tires have a tread pattern primarily for on wet grip. Downside of uni directional is that you cannot rotate them side to side. Generally speaking higher performance tires are unidirectional, but there are plenty of cheapo directional tires that are horrible. I prefer bidirectional tires because they can be rotated side to side.

The tread design means verry little, It deffinately helps with wer traction but thats about it. Higher milage touring tires with lower speed ratings will always get you more milage and a quieter ride, and the higher speed rated tires ZYW, will have better responce, and just full performance no matter what brand they are.

bidirectional = asymetrical...
and i prefer non-directional tires also, and id suggest them, especially if youre lowered. even a side to side rotation does little, but you can still flip the tires on the rim if youre getting inner edge wear.
