Gutting Cali Front Pre-Cat

If I just gut out all the precat material in the front precat and then hook up a O2 simulator to trick the ECU would that cause any problems? Or should I just wait and get a Fed manifold or headers in about 2 years when I will have money again.

I assume you already have an aftermarket y-pipe too?

I would think that the flow of punched pre-cats would be similar to that of a FED spec manifold.... and I'm sure aftermarket headers would net you a little more, not sure if its enough to necessarily justify the installation, but the aftermarket header design should still be less restrictive than a gutted pre-cat or FED set-up. Then again, I have no dynoes or track times at my disposal to prove that.
