don't they say they adjust the ignition? that's actually what they told me when I emailed......so much for researching huh?
They adjust the timing map, fuel map, and TPS mapping, rev limiter, top speed, etc...
Base timing is not part of the timing maps, nor does it matter (right after you press the gas, base timing is out the window) thats why people feel the "power" when they get the timing bumped up...it just takes fractionally less time to jump to the correct point on the timing map.
yea mike's told me a hundred times he was the test car. i'm just reiterating what TS said, i mean before anyone plops down money shouldn't we all know what they claim about their own products?
i went by the dealership today and talked with the service manage and he said he would do it but it would knock pretty bad, then he said the knock sensor would retad it back futher then it was, he said, 02-03 maxima customers complain all the time, about how they hear a knock and recommended not to do it, opinions please.

Most people don't change their oil or use the correct octane or change their plugs.
I would not do this mod unless your car is in excellent running shape.
Had my timing advanced to 17 degrees yesterday. Wow the throttle response is so much better. I went in to Nissan at 4:30 pm went to the sales desk to buy a gallon of OEM coolant to do a flush & figured while I was there I would ask one of the guys to do it. He was done for the day & walking out Asked him to do it I slipped him $20 he looked down said I will be right back & did it in less then 5 min right at the curb in front of the place . I told him while he was doing it that others said they were having a hard time getting the dealership to do it & he said hey $20 bucks is $20 bucks. I recommend this to any one. Best $20 bucks spent in a long time. P.S Gallon of OEM coolant was $19.95 what a rip off.

I doubt it will change the info from technosquare..
I work for Mitsbishi/Porsche. Today I went into the Nissan bulding and had a chance to observe how the consult works. First I had my ecu/tcm updated then I had the timing bumped. It's got to be one of the most user friendly user tools I've ever seen. She hooked the consult up to the computer uploaded the update info onto the program card. Reflashed my ecu/tcm, then she bumped my timing. She wasn't sure how, so I jumped online and copy/pasted the first thread into notepad and printed it for her. The reflash card isn't even in the consult while timing is bumped so in theory it would be impossible for it to change any other rom settings. The ecu/tcm reflash takes about 20-25 minutes to completely upload into the rom once the process is started. So a full hour or 8/10 isn't to bad. The timing change automatically saves in seconds.. $5 + if her friends need Mitsu reflash I owe her one for the whole thing. I did defiently notice a drastic difference in throttle response. Power gain is very minimal, but the split second it used to take to downshift and take off after you floor it has all but disappeared. Thanks for the write up.
EDIT: since I did the ecu update and timing both at the same time, I can't say for sure that the timing bump was fully responsible for the throttle response.
nissan tech. told me because my my car's throwing a code (haven't welded in my o2 bung after header install) he was unable to advance my timing. I think he's full of sh*t, throwing a code and advancing my timing is two seperate issues am i right or wrong?

Some are picky and wont because of the SES light.
My dealer did though, even with it on.

Advancing your timing more than a degree or two and you're asking for trouble. It's more of a throttle response thing than anything else, I personally wouldn't do it.
Obviously advancing/retarding your timing has it's merits with a lot of NA goodies/forced induction, but for simple bolt ons I think it's a waste.
i woder how will a guy look at me when a 17yr old kid asks him to do this....lol.....He'll prbly be like "kid, go home and watch disney chanell lol" hahahhahaha
but yeah i'll slip him some money, I hope they do it, i'll visit my Nissan dealer 2morrow.....
huso
Ya, thanks Arnold - just got done reading all three pages of the earlier thread. My question is this, if it indeed has increased RPMs at 60mph from 1800 to 2100, would this not ill-affect the gas mileage, especially at interstate speeds of about 75-80mph?
no, youre still in gear so you still do the same rpm after idle as you would before the timing was advanced.
don't ask the "dealer" to do it....go find a tech out back of the dealership smoking a cigarette and slip him some cash to do it. The service managers will NOT do it for you....find a tech, bring him the instructions at the beginnning of this thread, and he'll be happy to make $30-40 cash for 5 minutes of work.[/quote]
I'm with Irish. Why do ya'll go to the desk and ask for it to be done? The tech out back smoking-wants your 20 bucks. That is either more, or really close to their flat-rate pay...the dealer/manager doesn't want that kinda crap on the books. TROUBLE. Work smarter, not harder people. Save them duckets! The 60 bucks you just saved will fill your tank with super.
