Background: Bought the 00 SE 5spd with 38K mi from the dealer auto auction in PA about 14 mos. ago. Right now, the car has 58K mi on it. Regular oil changes, premium gas, the mods are WAI, Warspeed Y-pipe, and Powertech 101 muffler
When brought home from the auction, the check engine light was on and the car shook terribly at low RPMs ( up to 3000 rpms) but once floored, will work normally for the rest of the day, even if the RPMs are in the low range. and the engine was stalling at low RPM's in neutral. The computer indicated that there was a misfire in 4th cylinder. I have replaced all 6 coils to brand new OEM ones bought from the local Nissan dealership. The shaking and misfiring went away, but the car was still stalling at low RPMs in neutral. A new OEM MAF sensor was installed. The stalling went away, she purred like a kitten for about a year. Right around December of 2004, the car started shaking again, check engine light came on. The code indicated that there was a misfire in the 6th cylinder. Replaced a spark plug in the 6th cylinder with OEM brand-new one. The shaking went away, the computer was reset so the check engine light went away, everything was running smooth again. About 2 weeks later, the car started shaking again, but check engine light didn't come on. This time, all 6 spark plugs were replaced, the shaking still continued. A working MAF sensor from another 5th gen was installed to see if that would make the difference, but it didnt. The next morning, the car hardly started, and the shaking got even worse. The engine was restarted a few times, after which it suddenly started working very smoothly but the check engine light came on. The computer showed P1320 code but the car was running fine. The computer was reset, the check engine light went away but the damn thing started shaking again.
Any ideas on what would be causing those problems? Thanks
