Car Inspection - Leaking Strut??
I know this is a newbie question, but I am not very technical. They told me that I have a leaking strut and it will cost a few hundred to fix. If this is the case should I tell them to forget it and go with Max speed springs and new struts? Also is this a common problem - please explain.

Just a couple questions..... who is "they"? Can you verify yourself the strut is leaking? And if its really a few hundred to fix ONE strut, then its definitely not worth it, just buy some aftermarket struts and springs and DIY.... I got my HPs and Progress springs used for $265 total... and shipped....

Can not verify, they are a local shop doing my NYS car inspection probably trying to screw me for some cash. They left me a message and I havent called them back yet because he said a few hundred and it dosent make sense. Also It has been raining pretty hard all day here in NY. I was thinking I should 1st get a second opinion, if it is leaking get new shocks and struts, but I dont know if I can DImyself.

If its one strut, and its an OEM strut... then DO NOT do it for a few hundred... IMO that's way too much to spend.... if ya wanna pay a few hundred, I can send you all 4 of my OEM struts for a few hundred, how about $300?.... jk.... but seriously, its expensive and they do sound like they're trying to get a couple bucks off ya.... just tell em to hold off and you can get some aftermarket ones, even if ya can't DIY, ya should be able to find someplace that'll put em in for $100-$150 tops. BUT, I see you're on Long Island and I've seen tons of Orgers from close by (Brooklyn, Staten Ild, Queens, etc) , you could probably round some of em up to help ya with an install.... just buy em pizza and beer or something.... cheaper than a shop, and ya get to hang with other Org guys and their rides too.... just my thoughts....
