You have an 01, you can just buy the $90 MAF and use it... no need for swapping the IAT thermistor... only the 02-03s have to do that if they wanna use the 00-01 MAF.

Can I use a 2K1 MAF for a 2K maxima?
If yes, do I have to reprogram my ECU/just disconnect battery for couple of hrs...

How do you know its MAF? Whats the code it reads.. And when you say stutters? Is it when you step on the gas.. and sounds as if something is stuck, and then you release the gar (goes away) step on it.. stutters again? BEcause I got this problem now.. and it sounds like something is stuck when I step on it at 1500 rpm to 2000 rpm. Got the SES light on, but Autozone says P1130 which is a switl control? Any help.. Thanks.

If it won't pull out then just cut it under the metal clip. It will shorten the length but still be fine. Or you can try to spread the metal clips apart that hold it in. I had to clip mine.

I used a small eyeglass flathead screwdriver and pried to the two halves apart.

The thermistor wire goes between the two halves and then the halves get squeezed together. You need to pry the two halves apart.

Take a look at the new MAF and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Is it the same code? Try resetting the ECU after you have ran it at least a little bit.

Do the 2k2 have the same problem as the 2000 and 2001 with the MAFs going bad?? Or just if it was manufacured before 11/01?

The 2002s come with either 22680-6N201 or 22680-AM600 and the 6N201 is supposedly the more problematic MAF while the AM600 is more robust.

The 22680-2Y001 MAF from the 2001s seems to be the best of the lot and is cheap, which is why people are using it in place of the weaker 6N201 and good but expensive AM600.

Read the first page of the thread, this info is all there.

I need an IAT thermistor as well mine broke while taking it off at the thermistor itself. Does anybody know where to get one or the specs on it? there are lots of websites that sell these but i need to know the specs for it. And can i run the car without it, would it run fine?

Have you tried junkyards? Ya might be able to find the entire MAF too...

You can run fine w/o it, but will just throw a CEL.

the expensive one is the early 2k2 MAFs...that one comes stock with an IAT sensor...I believe late 2k2s came with the AM600 MAF

the less expensive one is the 2k1 MAF....this one does not come with an IAT sensor and requires transferring...

2k1 Max has the IAT sensor on the scoop thingy....starting from 2k2-2k3, they put the IAT sensor inside the MAF itself...

the 2y001 and AM600 MAFs are both the strongest from what I heard....the 2y001 is obviously much cheaper as the AM600 cost $400 something like the AD201....both AM600 and AD201 have the IAT built in...

I don't think so...I believe the IAT sensor for the 2k2-2k3 is shaped alot differently than the 2k-2k1...

why? did your MAF blow?

explain this part
For the 2k1 there are 2 MAF's available.
22680AD201 $424.73
226802Y001 $90.11 (This is the one that requires the sensor transferred.)

jime said there are 2 MAF's available for 2001 maxima. what is the difference between those 2 maf sensors? i am not talking about 2002-2003 maf and the IAT sensor. I know about how the 2k2-2k3 have it on the maf itself and the 2k-2k1 have it seperatly. all i am asking is why there is 2 different mafs for the 2k1 and the price difference.

I have a '00 SE. All of the MAF's talked about were 01's or above. Is there anything that I should worry about?

I've got an 02 SE and a lot of the symptoms indicating a bad MAF. A few questions:

1) After installing the new MAF, does the ECU need only be reset or reset AND reprogrammed?

2) The wire replacement definately isn't a problem, but I have no idea where the MAF is housed and how to get to it. Is there a writeup on how to do this whole install?

TIA

When you purchase the new sensor, it will be the entire unit. Basically, it's the black plastic housing that connects to your air filter box. Has a wire connector on the top of it.

You don't replace just the sensor, but the entire housing.

I replaced my '02 sensor with the '00/'01 sensor due to the price difference and just swapped out the IAT sensor from my old one. Very easy to do.

Only thinig I did not do is get it reprogrammed with the new mappings. I still get sluggish take-off around 2-3k rpms. When time permits, I will let the dealer reprogram it. Hope that helps.

Does the 2000 SE take the same MAF as in 2001, and which is better, or are they just the same??

I have a 2000 Maxima. I changed the MAF with part # 22680-2Y001, but my old one is stamped 22680-AD200. Now the car is very hard to start. It appears the new part for 22680-Ad200 is the 22680-AD201, yet i dont have that thermistor on it like it says on the other threads. My car is a Calf. emmissions, I wonder if thats why its different. Before you buy a MAF check the part # on the existing one in your car. Its on the outside of the cylindrical part

Guess I Got Screwed

So...i know nothing about cars. I just get in, turn the key and drive. However, i would like to know a little something now.

My 2001 Maxima was acting funny. I bought it at 68K last year June. Its now at 94K. I travel the east coast alot. But about 1 month back i went to Strauss and got a full tune up cost ~700 with 2 new tires. Now, my car was acting funny again. i thought it was my transmission so i took it to lee myles. after testing they said it wasn't and performed a full diag. The guy called and said it was the Mass Air Flow Sensor and quoted me $687.59 w/tax.

I guess i got screwed or the ordered the $400 part and are charging me 200+ for 15min of work?

yes...for a 2k1 that price is very high. Buy it from Dave B and install it yourself.

How do you guys replant that little thermo sensor in a 2001 maf???I can imagine how to remove it from my old 2002 maf since it just blew.Had to replace the maf with the 600 one.

Can I put back my berk intake without being afraid of it blowing again in 1 year?

I havent done it yet, but plan on doing it. Aparently the 01 MAF does have an area for that sensor to clip onto, it just wasnt incorporated in the 01 model year yet. I've read that it's just two clips, and you transfer the wire. And the berk wasnt the origin of the MAF going bad, 2k2 MAF's bite the big one. 2k1's are the strongest

What do you mean bite the big?Are you telling me that the maf going bad is totally NOT related to the installation of the berk intake??I thought I simply shortened the life of my old MAF because of it.Btw I checked every clamp fitting and bolts 2 times a week to make sure everything was fine.

Can you confirm 100% that my new 600 maf wont go bad faster because of the berk intake???
