Mine's on the way out at 52k, slip on 1-2 upshift when cold, slip on the 2-3 upshift at all temps, harsh downshift and slipping at WOT, harsh engagement into reverse. I figure it will chunk eventually.

Gotta get to the dealer and drop it off for a new transmission when my schedule allows it. Should be covered by 5/60.

Mine went two weeks ago at 63k but luckily for me I had purchased the ex. warranty. Mine slipped at the 1-2 upshift and at the 3-4 upshift. but, i could only feel the 3-4 slip when i had wound it all the way out and it shifted a redline.

what the hell?? Are these trannies not worth a crap. It seems most people with maximas have problems with them. Is it me or is it that our maximas dont seem to be that reliable. I just got my max too and the more I read posts here the less enthusiastic I am about having this car. What is the warranty on our trannies. I bought mine used I have a 2003. Thanks for the help.

well i only have a 5th gen, not a 5.5, but my tranny has had the same symptoms, and is now being replaced in 2 weeks by Nissan. I have 40,000 miles on the car. I slipped from 1st to second between 4K and 5K rpms. Some of you said you had your trans relpaced. How did the new ones shift, any better?

Probly gonna jinx myself by saying I havent had problems yet... hopefully it'll stay that way though. The replacement is covered thru 60k tho, right? just the bumper to bumper expires at 36k? It's been too long since I've looked at warantee info

I'm in the same shape as you are so far. The powertrain warranty is 5 years/60k miles.

Sheesh I have two maximas and both have original transmissions. I dont know what you guys are doing to yours but something is not right if they are going out at 40-60K. Ive had nothing but extreme reliablility from both the 95 and the 2K.

I brought mine to my local dealer (Acme Nissan) last year because it didnt feel like the 2-3 upshift was as smooth as it had been when it was newer. They found nothing of course but it hasnt become any worse since. (knock on wood) :scared:

Ive got 41k on mine and it runs like new (knock on wood). R u guys with tranny problems abusing your cars. I drive my max pretty hard but most of the time and I have not had any problems. In my opinion the trannies are pretty reliable since I do race my car a lot.

5.0 gen here, but mine started slipping a little after ~45k and took a fat **** when i hit a big bump while drifting a turn. Kaboom...every gear slipped and 4th was totally gone...really crappy experience but the perfect excuse for a manual conversion

When I bought my max with 30k, it didn't have an issue. Now it has about 46k and has issues with slipping. Haven't gotten around to the dealer yet. It's probably a function of how hard you drive it. I drive pretty aggressively, so that's probably why it is showing up now.

Mine went at 36K. I'm kinda wishing it goes again before 60K so at least I'll have a new trans. that'll last me another 20K out of warranty

Yep Nissan claimed the "beefed up" the tranny for 02 to handle the extra power, whatever they did is not good enough with all of these early failures on 02's. I dont think the tranny is handling the 260 ft/tq what they dyno at but claim only only 246 well at all.

I don't think it likes being wound out to the limiter in 1st and then manually shifted into 2nd at 70 MPH. That's how I do my acceleration runs.

no people that have maximas and are on the org have problems.

i have always wanted to say this
look at the demographics
the only maxima owners that you have info on are the people in the forum.
we never hear about the people that have maximas and have no problems since they drive "normal". we dont hear about it because they are not on the org. all we hear about is the people with problems. why??
look at the the people on here......
mods + push their cars=problems

Yeah I hope thats all it is. I just got mine and I dont want to have those kinds of problems with it. I only moderately push my cars so hopefully she will stay healty at least to 150k. At least that would be nice I should say.

My dad got 66k out of his 2k Transmission Launcher before it launched the transmission at 11 PM while doing 75 down I-20, it melted together inside causing the wheels to lock up in the middle of the highway.

I had to go "save" them and get them lift while waiting on the wrecker.

Not ever going to buy an older gen TL!

I was stock, save for the catback, when my tranny died. I did flog it a lot in terms of going WOT a lot (never manually shifted the auto or anything though, changed tranny fluid @ ~27K) but still, some of the blame has to go on quality -- a tranny isn't supposed to die at just 36k.

Mine is slipping, i want to know whats the simple signs , i bought my car used at 21K, its now at 25K i do not drive it agressively, but when i do, its obivous that it slips when shiftting from 1st to second for a second, it'll stay at 2K rpm's then in 2nd going to 3rd, i pressed it , it hesistated before shifting.. then in reverse its not smooth at all... but when you lunch it in first gear, it launches fine... offcourse i have to get the dealer to agree with me before we can get started... i am gona wait a little longer see if its gets worse then get it replaced........... another thing is, its fine on the highway due to steady speeds .... but stop and go....... its poor, that one to two second delay and the downshiftting is poor.......... and to think i've pampered the friggin car...... i have not even beaten on it..............

weight in the trunk.......

how many of you , have subwoofers or boxes in the trunk?

in my 94 maxima, my tranny went dead after 1 year of having 70lbs box in the trunk.

right now, i have a very small 10" 40lbs pound box ..... keeping it light

think weight in the trunk helps escalate the tranny issue?

I love mine for now. It's the 1st Asian auto I've ever owned. It's smooth as butter right now at 31k miles.

TRY BUYING A 5/6 speed next time, you lazy kids. I just don't get it. Some of you guys buy NEW autos, then pretend its a 5/6spd and beat the **** out of them. Why not just buy a manual transmission?

well i didnt buy an auto cause i was lazy
i bought it because i couldnt find a 5 speed after looking for 2 months in OK and TX.
and if auto owners were "lazy" then why would they "pretend it is a 5 speed" ???
and my tranny didnt go out because i was "pretending it was an auto". it went out because my TCM was bad.

I bought mine because it cost the same as the manual. The other reason is because the older I get, the less I like shifting gears in stop and go traffic. I still drive a 5 speed with my 95 KingCab though.
