In this thread this 3.5 Altima owner gains significant power when the car is tuned using this. Read the thread it's pretty informative. This should definitely work for our Maximas.

That sounds neat. How much $$?

Sounds similar to an SAFC-II...

This guy went from 199.1 to 246.5 fwhp! And from 223 to 248 torque! A gain of 47 hp and 25 tq. This was with the addition of headers and exhaust. Then the tuning. Go here for the pictures, they were too big.

Couldn't recommend his shop more. $995 for piggyback,.....put in his own Wideband O2 senor to tune (then plugging up the bung...unless I want more work done, then it's a simple reinstall of the sensor) and all the dyno runs. Not cheap....but not unreasonable at all. OMG is it worth it! Feels like a whole new car! The piggy back has data logging and everything.....he's sending me ALL the info from today so I can masterba.....I mean LOOK at it....yeah...look at it and compare. Very impressed! Time to start eating the dollar menu at Mc Donald's so I can get the progressive nitrous setup asap. But first...the track! About 6:00pm Eastern time.

Was messing around on route 18 after the install and decimated a 4.6 liter Mustand GT and Honda Acorrd V6...it was ugly.

Will definitely let u know......tires are pretty worn..so I'll see what happens. Gooo Alties! Until then, Jon.

Would the same gains also be possible on a maxima? Very good find!

I hope this piggy back is compatable. Someone on Altimas.net mentioned that they can get the SMT6 for less than $400. With that, it would be definately worth it. I wonder if this is just doing the same thing as the SAFC-2?

It does more. This allows for fuel injection calibration and is able to alter stock timing maps also. I'm sure it does even more than this, the hard part would be finding a competent shop that has experience with these to do the install/tuning. I can't believe how much power that Altima gained.

Now that I have had time to think about it since I posted under "Why cant we get gains like this" his gains dont surprise me at all. I think our 3.5 maximas would see the same gains under the same circumstances. I dynoed the OBX catback (greddy knockoff) and gained 6whp/4wtq as a single mod. We have seen gains from the HS headers from 19whp to 25whp. The TS ECU gave me 10whp. Granted it does more than any piggy back but my A/F is a bit off and I have less mods to tune for (GAB+catback). Alone that would be 35-41whp and who knows the kind of gains one would get with those mods with the TS ECU and proper A/F and timing tuning. Then we all know that mods give more power together than seperately. Given say another 10-15% increase due to the mods working with each other and you are looking at similar gains.

Basically isn't the same as the stillen VQ-pro that isn't out yet.

from Stillen catalog

We developed the VQ-pro to provide better air/fuel management, Increasing the overall performance. While there are power gains throughout the entire RPM band, the most dramatic gains are felt above mid-throttle and extend to redline. This unit wires directly to your stock ECU, unlocking the hidden performance in your vehicle. Program may include dual mapping depending on vehicle and trim. Also includes bypass connector that returns ECU to stock programming mode.

I was going to get the e-manage but this thing looks better ,the guy with the altima had no problems getting his ignition timing advanced .
Hope this works for a 96 max.

I'm not sure exactly, but I can say that I haven't seen gains like this guy got on his Altima from an ecu upgrade.

From what I understand, we should skip the E-Manage. Apparently the SAFC is cheaper and better? This new piggyback thing sounds interesting too, and seems to be rpiced reasonably.

Bgates: Where can I get a TS ECU? I want to improve the performance of my 2002 SE, mainly the shifting response of the auto tranny,

Thanks for helping :-)

I am trying to find more info on this thing. For now it all looks too good to be true, however if it is able to adjust ignition timing that is great but it doesn't explain how it does.

I dont beleive the TS ECU does anything for the shifting in the auto tranny.

Please tell me how is this thing better than a Emanage ? I have programmed 6 Emanage cars vs JWT, HonDATA ECUs and they all ran better and other than the lower rev limiter which U can't change, the Emanage got better results. Emanage with the ignition timing harness for a 350Z works just fine on a VQ. Greddy TT kit for a 350Z uses Emanage with great results- and adjust ignition timing also. This little box SMT6 doesn't even give ya the flexibility of a S-AFC II- which you can adjust from the driver seat. SMT6 needs a laptop in order to tune, or its a worthless little box that just sits under the dash. S-AFCII and Emanage can compensate for MAF changes, and injector changes if you where to go boost.

I was curious about this system since reading about it on the 350Z forums. There seemed to be some controversy about it last year. I don't really know enough to contribute any thing specific but here are a couple of threads I dug up from the 350z forum to read through.

You should definately pick up that SMT7. Im sure you could do wonders messing with it. Would it take a shop much time to tune a smt6? Could it be street tuned using a wideband and and laptop? Just curious because there is no dyno around here but theres a guy that says hes good at tuning with his laptop and wideband 02.
