What problems to look for when buying an 02-03 6spd???
Once again, change of plans...
I am probably going to get an 02 or 03 6spd..
Is there anything I should look for in particular when looking at the cars?
Any known problems?
Thanks,
Sam

Just make sure you drive it around first to check the 2nd-3rd and every other gear to 3rd switch, hopefully the synchros haven't gone bad and you'll get a good tranny. Good luck with your search! I should be starting my search in like 2 months and I'm also gonna be looking for a 2k2/2k3 6-speed, just like the one I had...

there's nothing wrong with tats models as a matter of fact I was close to get a 2k2, but I couldn't because the problems with the head lights I like to park my car anywhere and sometimes I lke to drive to Jersey but to many members can tell you his personal history....

I've taken it to the dealer 3 times for this issue and every time they tell me it's ok. I just think they don't want to pay up for a new tranny, or whatever else the problem is. I only have 10K miles on the car. Anyone know how to deal w/ these guys on the issue? It annoys the hell outta me.
Good luck with your car buying experience!

Make sure all recalls were done (transverse and gas pedal stop recalls come to mind but there are lists elsewhere on the board). It seems like early 02's (mine was one) had to have new clutch plates because of the "dying squirrel" syndrome. 03's seemed to have avoided this problem. MAF and ECM reprogram was another common 02 issue. Hope this helps.

Keep bugging them, take a service manager out and let him drive and make him downshift into 3rd from any gear to see that it's not a "normal thing" because it doesn't grind any other gear. It took some convincing but my dealership finally came around...then again...but finally got it right the 3rd time.

Either way, if a synchro goes bad, as far as I know, you can simply replace that specific synchro and any other parts that it might have affected.
Correct me if I'm wrong please anybody, it'd be great to have some experienced people chime in here.
