Well I don't care if they look like AE's or not I just wanna darken them to match my tails; how hard is it to darken them, and is there a How-to out there? Also has anyone taken apart their 00-01 hls, if so how difficult was it and is there anything I should know? Btw Dj Playboy your maxima hls kick ***, they look better than AE ones! You gotta show me how you did that! =)

well, not sure why it's Bush's fault (my $$ has doubled in the last 3 1/2 years); but that's another argument for another day....we all have bills to pay and I bet all of us spend too much money on our cars that we could be saving up

BUT MY MAIN POINT...... I agree with you about doing it yourself...kind of more fun that way. Soonerfan Jason, that's funny of you to call homemade AE-lookalikes "not true"...kind of like your "not true" SE black tails haha

To make this a DIY, you need someone with the time and ability to create this inside overlay mold and distribute/sell it. The problem is that person is probably wasting their time doing something else. If they could get it done I am sure they could get atleast $40 a set. those who are listening think.

quality is good.
i had a small leak in one but it only happened when the hood was open and i was spraying the engine bay out. never happened when hood was down and it was raining. i used some silicon and sealed it up and have had no more problems

sorry, I just deleted my long soapbox response on politics, to save the thread.

Suffice to say, if I was "rich" or "richer" I wouldn't be driving a lightly-modded 2000 maxima....

oh and keep thinking Kerry's gonna help out the "poor"...that guy and his wife have more money than everyone on maxima.org will EVER have COMBINED....he's never MET a poor person.

D. Anyway I'm so poor I can't even buy *sniff* a amp for my sub..*Sniff...Or a freaking how to on how to darken these headlights...Any advice on how to do this?

seriously, just PM soonerfan...He's done it, though apparently didn't look that good...unfortunately, not everything we do ourselves turns out like we want it to

My advice....move on to another cheap mod for the time being - maybe a template kit will come out one day....reason: because unless you KNOW it's gonna turn out good, no use risking ruining your headlights, especially for a mod that is purely cosmetic.

That's why I haven't done AE lights yet either...I like em but haven't found a safe way to do it that won't damage the light and that will come out looking good - and can't justify $110 for real ones since they don't make me see better!

and btw I voted for Bush and will again...damn Dems like to cut defense budgets, and DoD is who pays my salary

then quit bragging about your salary.

bush is a nice guy, but if thats all it took to get into office, the guy who drives my bus would be president.

ok im back,
short form write up
here it is

items needed: phillips and flat head screw driver, non stick cookie sheet, 1 can of spray paint(flat or gloss black, i used gloss), towel, oven, patience, time

1. pop hood find the screws on the head lights(on top) unscrew them and pop out the light, theres a clip on the bottom of the light holding it to the bumper.

2. preheat the oven to about 250 deg wrap the headlight with a towel, place on the cookie sheet. Put it in the oven and wait about 5 mins, take out and slowly try to pry it apart with a screw driver, if the glue isnt soft enough pop her back in the oven.

3. once the assembly is apart find the screws inside and take the out, once there out remove the mirror part of the assembly, place tape on the areas you do not want to paint such as the inside where the bulbs go. once taped up place on some newspaper, grab spray can of paint(shake well...lol) hold it about 8 to 12 inches away and spray in a sweeping motion and make sure to repete this for about 3 or 4 coats if needed ( i used 3 )

4. sit back drink beer and let dry

5. once its dry peal off the tape and put her back together, the same way you took it apart, you may want to put the assembly back in the oven for a few mins to warm the glue back up.

6. once assembled back together, put back on car sit back and admire...

7. repete for the other side
