Long Trip...

Hey, guys. This July, I'll be taking my Max (2000 SE) on its longest trip yet, my honeymoon to Florida. It has just over 62,000 miles and the farthest I've taken it is 350 miles. This trip will be about 1000 miles (Charleston to just south of Ft. Myers). My question is what parts of the car would you recommend getting checked out before going on the trip? I know I'm going to get the oil changed before I go, but what else would you recommend? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Oil is the biggest thing. Don't change the oil the day before you leave, in case something happens. Check tire pressure. You can check coolant, too, but it is usually fine. That should get you buy.

Those 1000 miles will fly by and it mostly comes down to oil and fuel consumption. I just went from GA to WV and back and I checked nothing before I left, and I have 60K on my car. These cars just don't consume fluids unless there is something very wrong. You can change your air filter, which might improve gas mileage.

The only other thing that could go wrong is a dead battery. My battery went from working fine to completely dead in about an hour. So, you'd won't always get a warning that the battery is about to go.

Good luck
