2k3 feels so much better after RESET!
Hey guys
I have beeen driving for 43,000kms, and my car felt like @ss forthe longest time. FOr the longest time, no matter what i do, I could not shift gears smoothly, every shift was greated by a lurch. My guess was because of the drive-by wire or something that makes the throttle ultra sensitive.
Anyhow... I did an ECU reset, throttle position learning, idle air volume resets. (can't believe the procedure is so stupid) and took the car for a test drive.
What i noticed was my idle dropped down abit. But no more lurch. The car FINALLY drives so smoothly.. Even on/off throttle application has improved immensely. God i missed how my car USED to drive when new.
You guys should all do the rest.
The procedures are on the TECHNOSQUARE ECU website. I don't have the website on hand.
Thanks
ED

I just bought a 1993 Sentra SE-R as a commuter, to save miles on my Maxima, and MY GOD, the difference in quality of the two transmissions is rediculous....
My SE-R shifts so much better, I love it..
to bad it only makes about 110 hp at the wheels...

Why is the 5speed much better then the six speed? I like the 6speed better... except when it grinds going into 3rd... but thats getting fixed. what did they change in the 2k2's that the tranny dropped in quality?

Agreed. the 5 speed tranny in the 95-2001 maximas is about 300% better as it is linkages and not the crappy cable shifter.
Its smoother, and feels like a million bucks. The cable shifted 2k2/2k3 feels like @ss.
BTW.. drove my car yesterday all day long, and it still feels a lot better than before the reset.
When you do the ECU reset, the CHECK ENGINE light should blink (fast and slow) which indicates that you did it properly.

BTW, the prodecures are for the 02-up w/drive-by-wire electronic system on both auto and manual models.

had a '91 SE-R 5-speed for over 10 years. Unbelievable how much better that car shifts vs maxima (or any other manual Nissan). The Original SE-R was a ball Nissan should never have dropped.
It is sad when the flagship has a lesser feeling manual.
I love my '02 max 6-speed, but I loved my '91 SE-R more!

The Sentra, although less HP, had a lot of potential with its SR20DE (or T) power plant. and given that its a smaller car, it handles aobut 1000x better when modded over a maxima.
To this day, I miss my mazda protege for its simplicity, and the mere fact that it would stick tot he road like glue.
A maxima is a totally different ball park, ie. Japanese Caddillac STS. Lots of power, FWD, but a boat... and floaty as hell..

Here is what Bryan from Berk Technology filled me in on:
"Brian,
I was wondering if I need to reset my ECU since installing the Berk intake.
Alex,
It's not neccesarry to do so. The ECU will relearn on it's own in about a week. By resetting the ECU, you are putting it back at baseline, which it will still have to relearn anyways to your climate so you aren't really gaining anything.
Regards,
Bryan"

for the last procedure on the website (Idle Air Volume Learning) the first 2 steps are to perform the other 2 procedures. does this mean to do all 3 at the same time in sequence? or just to make sure you do the first 2 before you do the last one?
