Not crazy about the positioning of the Turbo itself, and the piping bends....but he sure deserves credit for starting something , none of us have !

Oh man this is awesome. Like everybody else says:
1. dyno
2. dyno
3. dyno

Then some runs down the 1/4 would be awesome too. I'm going to assume that you're a 6 speeder, right?

So what's the power like? Does it pull really hard? I guess you still have some tweaking to do from reading the other thread. Really nice though, you have what some of us can only dream of having.

Agreed. At least wrap the intercooler piping since the turbo is rigiht beside it. Also it's so close to the hood wouldn't it discolorate the paint?
But it's very nice work!

Speak for yourself. I already have pistons, head studs, connecting rods, and a VATN turbo picked out for my 2003 GLE. I'm sticking an NRH built automatic in my car as well...

Details:
-Turbonetics TO4E/60-1 HI-FI stage 5 ball bearing turbo
-Tial 38mm wastegate with 5.8psi spring (not venting to air, but into downpipe)
-HKS super sequential BOV
-AEM FPR
-Walbro fuel pump
-Gutted front precat and removed rear precat
-Moved O2's behind a 3in. high flow main cat
-Made a y-pipe towards rear and used a U bend to bring it forward
-Aluminized tubing
-2.5" intercooler piping
-3" downpipe (after cat it tapers back down to stock setup..will finish with 3")
-Gauges: fuel pressure, EGT, air/fuel
Cost: way too much

Future plans:
-Greddy e-manage
-RC 440cc injectors
-Return fuel line (if needed)

I agree with the tubing placement, it is a real tight fit. I still have a lot of work and tweaking that needs to be done...remember I have only had this for a day now. All the tubing will be wrapped and if there is too much heat soak, I will try a different setup. I also need to spend some time cleaning up the engine bay and making everything look nice. Fuel management is my biggest concern right now though. MAF sits in the wheel well.

Specific Replies:
Triple8Sol: I will eventually get the looks going, I just decided to start with performance (well besides the body kit).
Quicksilver: Sounds like a sweet setup, I want to get an extra 3.5 and start working on internals as well.
Littledog: The turbo isn't real close to the hood, but you are right the heat could start to discolor and/or bubble the paint. I do plan on adding heat shield material in that area.

I will try to get some dyno numbers as soon as possible (also sound clips and video possibly).

Thanks to all who have replied!!

I have a Turbonetics T4/60-1 but not ball bearing. The difference in price was RIDICULOUS! You could have bought 2 turbo-kits for the cost of that turbo alone! Good luck man... YOu definately need fuel management before you can ever hope to run your car properly though or it will be all for naught. Maybe consider downgrading the turbo "a little-bit" and you'll have enough money to get the e-manage w/out incurring so much extra expense. I know you paid out the @$$ already.
From experience I can tell you that even though the Max engine, can handle a T4/60-1 easily, no matter what kind of traction or suspension upgrades you get, the Max cant really keep all that power on the ground anyway. I have a quaife, pr engine mounts and cattman gen 2 coilovers and I'm still spinning tires like crazy. Think about it.

I totally agree with you about the traction, but the main reason for the ball bearing is spool time. The ideal turbo setup has the turbo close to the exhaust manifold, which allows for quick spool up even without a ball bearing turbo (nothing you didn't already know). So since my turbo sits a mile away from my exhaust manifold I wanted to cut down on some of the lag by getting a ball bearing turbo.

If you are so interested in spool time why go with such a large turbo? You won't hit full boost till 4500 probably, even with BB. I see all these people running full T04e, T04s and 60-1's and I don't get why people just don't run a hybrid at higher boost? You have to figure out the fuel issues though, especially with all that power up top..

Good luck and good work.

Thanks for the advice, but I think this turbo is a perfect match for the 3.5L (bb or not). I spent a lot of time talking with people at turbonetics and innovative turbo on which one to get. A smaller turbo might not supply the amount of air the 3.5 needs in the high end, especially when the VI kicks in. Another great part about this turbo choice is: when the engine is built I won't have to upgrade the turbo. I didn't really notice when I hit full boost and it snowed yesterday so I will check it out and let you know. I think you are right though about hitting full boost at around 4500. We set it up to hit full boost between 3700 and 4500. And yes, fuel is my top priority right now.

The sun is up!! Hopefully the snow clears up soon, it sucks that it had to snow a day after I finished this. Oh well.
