Recently, i've noticed that everytime I accelrate hard( till around 4500-500RPM), i hear a whining sound coming from the engine...it happens only in 1st and 2nd gear...anyone seen this on their maxima?
I have a 2001 SE (20th Anni) Auto

Are you sure it is your engine, and not your stereo. Try to see if it goes away with the stereo off. I have seen a few bose systems that have a little noise in them.

Yea- i also have this same problem. Not sure what it is. It usually happens under any mid-to-hard acceleration usually from 3000rpm till redline (gets quieter as engine roars, yet gets slightly louder than when at 3000). It sorta sounds like a sc perhaps- i dont know, but it's sure annoying. Anyone?

Same issue in my 4th gen. Would like to know the culprit. Sounds just like a sc and ive lost some acceleration.
