Self Diagnosis of Check Engine Light

My "Service engine soon" light has come on for my 2000 Maxima. I am trying to diagnose the problem myself. How can I make the light flash the trouble codes. I have a Haynes manual that says there should be a "diagnostic mode selector" on the side of the PCM. I don't see one on my PCM. Do 2000 model have this and if so where is it?

It should be in the center next to the gas pedal. Adjuster has a plastic covering over the screw. Poke hole in cover and follow instructions from Haynes manual.
