Metal grinding? *HELP PLZ*

Its coming from the front right wheel well. It sounds like metal is grinding on metal but its not constant. It will do it for about 10-15 seconds then stop for about 10-15 minutes then start again. My guess is that my rotors are gone but I could be wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is going wrong and the best way to get the problem solved? I'm kinda dreading going to the dealer. All suggestions are welcomed.

Most of the time when I apply the breaks it stops, but not always right away.

if it sounds similar to a cd skipping but still metal on metal it might be the pad wear indicator for the brake pads. i would have them replaced as soon as you can if this is the case to keep possible rotor damage from occuring. im not suggesting it is going to occur immediately but obviously it needs to be looked at.

I have 86,000 miles and I never changed my rotors.

Could it be the feeler gauge on the brake pads rubbing against the rotor telling you the brake pads are shot????

How old are the pads? Were they put on properly??

Thanks

It could be a bad wheel bearing. That happened to me.
