Lost to a Civic

First time ever at the track and my best time was 14.9 @ 94. I was OK with this since I had been running mid-grade gas, the track is at 2000' and I had no traction at all (even without poping the clutch I could spin all the way through 1st)

My first run was 'against' an old Challenger which ran 11.1 @ 120. Anyway, I got 9 runs in total and beat a Mazdaspeed Protege, a SPECV and a Dakota RT. I did let the Maxima community down by loosing to a Civic. Excluding an engine swap, can a Civic run 14.1 @ 100 without some sort of FI?

You can't expect much the first time. Who cares who you lost to. If it was a stock geo metro, then you should be embarrassed.

something definetly doesn't sound right here........from my understanding, you're saying that civic didn't have an engine swap and there was no form of FI involved?? Either you had a really bad launch and he was a really good driver, or there's more under his hood than what he told you. I guess if there were cams and headers done to it, along with intake, exhaust, etc, it could do it, but highly unlikely.

Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong.

dude don't sweat it. There are ALWAYS going to be faster cars out there than you, and as nick mentioned, you should never expect much your first time at the track. That's just to get a feel for things and learning.

So what kind of Civic was this? The old hatchbacks (late-80/early-90 timeframe) can be brutal with a B16A swap (civic si motor, 160hp, or 170hp if it's the JDM version). They're only 2000 lb and can easily run low-14's just with the swap. Add some bolt-ons and they can run 13's all motor, or still 14's probably at 2000'.

If it was a newer body style (late-90's/early-00) then it had to be FI'ed. The newer ones are now at 2500-2700 lb and the B16A swaps just don't pack the punch that they used to in the old hatches.

Not even at sea-level. That Civic was definitely packing some goods, whatever it was.

A Civic is still a Civic though. Remember, you're driving a Maxima with probably more features, comfort, and gadgets and not stripped like the Civic most probably was. That 14.9 @ 94 is something to be proud of.

Yeah, that's what I figured, but I was trying to be "politically correct" in case there are former civic owners here who might want to flame over that comment!

I didn't have time to talk to the guy. I have no idea what he had under the hood. It was as hatch back and of the '92-'95 variety, and it was either a CX or DX, but I think he had a little more than 106 hp. He had at least an intake and exhaust because he was LOUD. Anyway, next time I go the tires will be at 25 psi and I'll be slipping the clutch at lauch.

Probably a B16A swap and some bolt-on's.

If he was turboed or S/Ced too he probably would have been running 12's or 13's.
