My 2k2 v 2k4 review

My 2k2 v 2k4 review
I had the opportunity to drive my car and my dad's car back to back this weekend for some lengthy highway driving and came away prefering my ride. The 2k4 is 6 speed with cloth.
Advantages with the 2k4:
-less wind and road noise (seems there might be more insulation)
-better overall grip (higher limits)
-better ride over rough surfaces
-smoother gearbox
-electrically adjustable lumbar support
2k2 advantages:
-less tourque steer
-seems slightly quicker (because it is already broken in?)
-more visible HVAC/stereo controls in bright sun (2k4s suck)
-more "tossable", really noticed the extra heft on the 2k4
-steering wheel controls more intuitive
-lighter clutch (less durable?)
-better quality interior materials

I especially agree with the interior materials being subpar on the 04.......I mean what is the deal with the hard dash......the material to me looks super cheap compared to my 2K2 dash.....my dash is soft and looks like high grade materials......the 2K4 dash is just like the materials used on the middle of the steering wheel. Also the suede like materials used on the door panel are nasty too......what happened to traditional materials used on the interior of a "flagship". The exterior is starting to grow on me however I believe the interior will stop me from upgrading for quite a while.

I test drove both the 2K3 and the 2K4 back-to-back about a month ago. I liked the exterior of both. However, there's a "je ne sais quoi?" look/style of the 03 that really does something for mee.
But the biggest factor in my decision to go for an 03 was that i didn't like the interior of the 04. The 2 things that stood out in mind was the cloth material on the door panels that went right up onto and around the dash and the fact that i couldn't see the dash info screen in the sun.
I don't have a hate on for the 04 exterior styling and i like it in certain colours.

I'm not kidding. The tail lights are OK,it has a wide stance that 5th gens don't have, and I like the quad tailpipes.

The 5th is an interesting car, None of us are used to it yet.. I think the car, with the q45 engine, and mated with a 6 speed would be kind of cool. Perhaps they can make it sportier, a 2 door version? Add some options to make it a little less frumpy looking (my opinion). Most new cars are like on the verge of looking like something fresh out of CAD to make something as different looking as possible, yet functional? I suppose this happened with every generation of cars, we are just seeing the latest trend, and are kind of confused??? Perhaps the car isn't so awful. Maybe in 10 years when the new, new designs come out, we will feel as such about them, while we miss our 6th gens : ]
I wouldn't buy one, but right now I have a 2002, would I consider one if i had, say a 95, absolutely.

While waiting to get my BOSE HU replaced (had the left side speaker problem), I spent some time looking at several '04's at the dealer. The looks have grown on me and makes my '02 look a bit dated IMHO. However, if I had to put down $30 to 35,000 on a new car it would be the G35. My Maxima has too much torque steer as it is and I've heard the '04 is just as bad or worse. Now if Nissan were to make the 6th Generation Maxima in AWD....hmm.....
