Dogged a BMW

Smoked a BMW 328i that thought he was the **** and thought the Max was not. I saw him bobing a weaving, like a jerk so I finally pulled up to a light gave him the stare, and smoked him then lane changed on his butt. What a sucker spending all that money and got lane changed on. I was just wondering can our car beat the BMW 330 or 540, or the Lincoln LS, WRX, Acura CL/TL type S. Just wondering, not trying to get smoked. By the way my car is pretty much stock, just a K&N filter.

540 would leave you in the dust. LS would probably smoke you (V8 engine). WRX would smoke you. Acura would find out the Max is king.

LS suck on acceleration, a 2k2 will toast it.
540i auto and 2k2 6sp will be a good match

not sure about 540i 6sp and 2k2 6sp, i think the 540i will beat it...afterall those things got V8s in them and with a nice gearbox , the driver can use them pretty well

I dunno - he'll get flamed by the "anti-street-racing" crowd", but I've noticed that lately the people complaining about breaking the NO KILLS IN THE FORUM rule aren't even moderators - so who cares?

This was not a organized street race. It was just me teaching this guy that he dose not have a hot car and to slow down because his car is not fast.

I am sure we all value your 'instruction'. Yeah right.

He is supposed to 'slow down because his car is not fast' while it is OK for you to speed up to impart this 'lesson'.

Am I the only one who sees how half-assed this rationale is?

I'll understand what? I was agreeing with your post, and stating that I knew you'd jump on the chance of flaming someone.

I understand perfectly.

Let's see if you're mature enough to let this die.

I'm really trying to let this post die down, I have only been with this forum for a little bit over a month and I'm not trying to get kicked out. This site is very helpful and I am on it all day because I work at a my computer all day. I just saw other people listing there kill list so I though that I would follow. Low and behold it was a mistake. Sorry everyone that got offence to this post, if I could i would erase it.

540i auto does 6.1-6.2 from the bmw site.

2k2 6sp does about 6 flat or even high 5's with a good driver

My dad's 2002 540 auto ran 13.81 at 99.98 MPH (either that or 98.99...but those two numbers were in there in some order). No stock 6 speed Max can do that with any driver (IMHO)...

Don't sweat it. And you can delete it if you want to; at the bottom right of your post is an Edit/Delete link. Click that in your original post, and if you click the Delete button on the next screen, it will erase your post and the rest of the thread (only works that way if your post is the one starting the thread).

BMW 540 is 290 HP and just shy of 4000 lbs. the power to weight ratio advantage goes to the Maxima. This would be a close race given that the 540 has better traction, but it most certainly would not "kick the **** out of" the Maxima. Typical 0-60 for both cars is six seconds.

Good point. In fact so many cars these days are low to mid 6 second cars that these street races will likely go to the most aggressive guy who is paying closest attention to the race instead of the surrounding traffic.

BTW... I sold my '97 328is 5-speed and bought my 2003 Max becuase I needed a bigger car w/4 doors. Years ago I owned a 90 and 92 SE and loved them both and knew they were cool, reliable, and fun to drive! Especially the 92 5-speed! The BMW just wasn't my style, but I will say this.... In a raw, all out accelleration run, a 3.5 6-speed might have out run my 328, but it wouldn't have smoked it's a$$. Have you driven a BMW with the 3.0 lately??? The 330ci 5-speed is a sub 6 second car.

But like you all... I chose the Max! Fits me like a glove

Actually the numbers are as such:

2003 540i Auto
3803lbs/290hp = 13.11 lbs per hp
3803lbs/324tq = 11.73 lbs per tq

2003 Maxima SE Manual
3239lbs/255hp = 12.70 lbs per hp
3239lbs/246tq = 13.16 lbs per tq

Keep in mind that if you equip the SE Maxima with leather and other goodies, it's power to weight ratio diminishes. The 540i already has those features included in the vehicle weight.

Starting traction advantage goes to 540. Torque to weight ratio advantage goes to 540. This means it gets off the line quicker, since TQ is what does the work and not HP in this case. Drag coefficient is .31 for the 540 to the Max's .32. This means that the 540 will accelerate slightly faster once it's off the line. Traction at this point is also heavily advantaged towards the 540. Since the HP to weight advantage isn't as important rolling as at a dead stop, the higher HP of the 540 will take over. Drivers being equal, the 540 will win handily.

win handily? no way man...a 540i 6 speed gets to 60 in 5.7-5.9, a Max 6 speed does it a couple of ticks slower. now factor in the automatic, and it's a wash. total drivers race

My dad's '02 540 w/ slicks ran 13.81 in the 1/4. Like I said, no stock 6 speed Maxima 2002+ can do that. Oops...I forgot to mention in the earlier post it was on slicks. That was my bad, but it will still beat a 2002+ 6 speed Max without them.

Next time run it without slicks, and tell us what time he gets.

I ran a 13.9 with my stock auto on drag radials. And it was 100 degrees fahrenheit outside.
