K&N Air Filter Question

I am planing to get a K&N air filter. How good are they? Any reviews on a 2k2 maxima? Does it make the sound of the engine better? any increaced performace compared to the stock filter?

The panel filter wont give you hardly any gains. You'd be better off getting an aftermarket intake, OSCAI, or ghetto airbox mod.

K&N Drop in filter

+Washable(Reuse multiple times)
+Maybe feel better response from engine
+Won't void warrenty on car
+Slight improvment of MPG

-Won't get actual gain in Horsepower(Maybe like 1HP if you are lucky)

-Won't gain any "performance sound"

----------
Conclusion, for about $45 you get a much better "Filter Element" compare to OEM Paper filter, and you never have to buy another air filter again. Best part is it won't void your warrenty.

If you want HP, get a Intake system.

Choices are as the follows rank from MOST popular on this fourm,

(Thought I tell you first before you post ANOTHER thread about which intake is the best and get flamed)

1. FrankinCar Intake(most HP gain)
2. Place Racing CAI (True CAI)
3. Injen CAI (Best looking intake w/ nice combination of sound and moderate HP gain)

Hope all these help.

I made I guess what you would call a ghetto mod. I removed the scavanger box and replaced it with a 3" exhaust piece and put a K&N breather filter on the engine. This fixed the passing hesitation/lagging problem that I had with the stock part. Also, at about 6k rpm is makes a kind of turbine sound. I don't think I gained any hp, but it fixed the lag problem. I also have a K&N panel filter in the stock airbox, not for performance, basically to save money in the long run. Chris

I had a K&N drop-in and then replaced it with a Frankencar. Don't waste the $40 - $45, just get the Frankencar with the Apexi filter. It's well worth the additional $150. You won't regret it.

I've got the Stillen Hi-flow intake which utlizes a K&N cone filter with an overpriced Stillen logo on it. I'm very happy with the sound that it makes and it seems to add a little "umf" to the car.

The price of $169 or so was inexcusable, but thats the price you pay for the Stillen name which is what I wanted
