I asked this question a few months back. The general idea is that they break after a while of use. There is a moving part on the outside of the bulb, and when you put your high's on, it opens up. After time, this moving part can get stuck or stop working.

Here is the link with all the info:

yeah like mcculluch (or something like that) they have a moveable scoop that breaks after a while. Thier design just sucks. Anything with a moveable scoop I wouldn't get. I have 4 friends with the Catz design (similar to autolamps-online) and the high beam works flawlessly. But of course the choice is yours......

But when you convert your stock housing to HIDs do you really need high beams? Or low beam will be as bright as my stock high beams?

I would say yes if you have a 00-01. That way you can flash other drivers (like to pass or to warn, or just to blind the hell out of them). 02+ you just upgrade to brighter HID bulbs.

I haven't seen a side by side comparision, but 2002 Maxima Hids are rated at 4150k I think. Even though Catz are at 4500k, I think Catz are slightly more brighter due to their manufacturing. Catz uses OEM parts from most Japanese cars and in their kits in Japan and on their website most of their OEM vs. Catz comparisions are usually brighter than OEM. So I am willing to say yes. I have just recieved the kit earlier today and will post pics as soon as I install it Friday.

HID

I installed them finally Friday, and I took tons of pictures. They are on page 5 of my homepage, I just threw up the pics for now. I will explain most of my pictures as soon as I get a chance to work on my page. By the way, I don't sell them but maybe I should! Installing them was fairly easy. In one of my pics, you can see where the hyperwhite bulbs I used to have fried my wireharness. I had to literally re-wire them and repair them. Let me tell you, those suckers are bright as hell! High beam works flawlessly! It works every time without fail. You can even hear the little 'click' when the solenoid moves the bulb. Catz came through with this one. The beam pattern exactly matches OEM and the line is clean with little glare. The low beam is bright enough though that people keep flashing me. I forgot to re-aim them after I installed them, so a few people were blinded. I was in Hollywood earlier and I found my self next to Lexuses and Mercedes and Acuras and I can say that mine look brighter and whiter. Most of those cars have a purple-ish tint to the beam. I pulled behind a white suv and the reflection was intense. That along with my fog HIDs was too much I think, but f*ck it. It definately got my car noticed, especially when people walked in front of my car. No cops pulled me over so far (knock on wood).
