Well, my car got broken into while I parked at the local bar/restaurant in Houston and the factory alarm didn't even go off. At least, that was what the valet guy told me... (I didn't valet so may be he didn't tell the truth). The thief use a screw driver and pried the door handle up and unlock the door. They stolen my briefcase which didn't have anything of value to them. What made me made was a lot of personal info was lost along with the bill to fix the door handle. A local Nissan dealer told me at least $200 for labor and around $70 for parts. That's assume they don't have to replace the lock cylinder and the rods, it is just the door handle. Does it seem high to y'all?

I am going to put in a aftermarket alarm system after this too. One that can page me so the door is broken in and I can kick the crap out of the thief.

Wha? Prying the door handle up to unlock the door? I don't jack cars for a living so I don't know if this is common, but is it even possible?

The factory alarm is designed to go off when any of the 4 doors open. I don't believe it includes the trunk, but it may... This means, unfortunately, that if someone broke your windows, the alarm wouldn't make a chirp...

I believe this was discussed when someone installed the Nissan Theft kit. There are two parts : one prevents easy break in on the hood, and the other blocks access to the electronic door opener in the handle.

My car was broken into the same way. It was a Ford about 4 years ago. Fortunately, I had an aftermarket alarm. I now have a 2k1 max. I don't remember what year your max is, but if it's like mine. I can arm it w/the key fob & dis-arm it by unlocking the door. If the theif pried out your door handle & turned the locking mechanism, he disarmed your alarm. This is a factory flaw w/most cars.

I feel for you man. I had a SuperCoupe stolen and totalled out. Like Pulp Fiction, It would almost be worth the damage to the car to catch the person doing it. The thieves broke into my car through the driver's side rear window and popped the hood and disconected the battery. The next few cars I had, had an aftermarket pro installed alarms on them.

I don't know if ours are the same but the this was done to my friends 328ci and they said the lock cost $300 and $200 labor. They claim the lock and the little circuit board attached to it are sold as one.

The factory alarm is a piece of sheet. It does nothing but remote door lock/unlock. I dont even know why they call it factory alarm system. Get real, get Viper 790VX.

That sucks dude, I'm sorry to hear that. However, personal info could be valuable to them. With all the identity theft going on just make sure you are on top of your credit reports and what not. It's amazing what people can do with your personal info and the internet.
