service engine soon light

Hi everybody,
my service engine soon light came on today..kinda freaked me out..cause i bought the car on sat..had it all checked out this morning..all fluids, breaks, rotors, lights..etc.. and they said everything was ok...had a sigh of relief that perhaps i didn't buy a lemon.. but then once i left the shop 2 hours later the light came on..any ideas as to what this could be?
thanx.

there isnt a way to guess why the light came on. if i were you, id take it right back to the lot or dealership and let them know how quick the light came on. if you received the car as is and dont want to go back then find an autozone near you to pull the diagostic code. can you provide a little more info, is the car acting funny in any way? idling, accelerating?

autozone is a free diagnostic. some people have said autozone employees tell them they cant do it cause its foreign but they do it around here. the place where you bought should be able to take a look at it if they have competent service people.

I bet you that its the O2 sensor. My light came on at 65k and the codes point to the o2 sensor. I think Nissan is re-programing the ECU to address this issue. What changes that Nissan is making to the code should be address by someone else.

I've heard that this might also be because your gastank cap is not completely closed. Make sure it's tight. Then the light might go away.
good luck.

My service engine soon light just came on today during highway driving. I have 36,500 miles (figures, my warranty just expired) on the car. I haven't taken it anywhere for diagnostics, but if is was the O2 sensor.....any idea what that costs??

I just had this happen to me last week. Light came on - PANIC! 37k miles, running great. Brainstorm - check gas cap - not very tight. Tighten it, light still on. Think. Disconnect battery for a couple of hours. No light for 3 days so far.

I don't think disconnecting the battery is necessary. It should have gone away by itself after some miles.
