REQUEST - who is running 225/45/17 on stock 17" ?
folx -
before i get flamed, just know that i have read everything there is to read on the FAQ about this.
i just spoke to eric @ tirerack. the guy just laughed when i told him 2003 maxima se: "well, lesse ... there are three choices - expensive crap, crap, and real crap. nissan really knew how to pick a tire size to screw things up." he and i talked for about 15 minutes on options. he was very good and new his stuff. essentially he told me that the 225/45/17 will be way to tight for a stock se rim (dia is way off) ... and that the 235/45/17 would fit diameter wise but its for a much wider wheel. all this checks out w/ what ive read... btw, these are for sumi htr+.
however, i still want to know who is running 225/45/17 on their stock se wheels? and if you are having problems ...
im really starting to get a sinking feeling that this wont be the last time i run into this issue w/ my max. (she looks so hot right now, all nice and clean though!)
thanks folx -

I don't think you'll find many people running 225/45R17s on their OEM rims, jerome. Most will either keep the OEM size (225/50) or opt for a wider tire (235/45 or 235/50). I wouldn't recommend going wider than a 235mm tire on a 7.0"-wide rim, however.

FWIW, some of the 3-series BMW's run 225/45-17's. The rear GVW rating for those cars is within a few lbs of the front GVW of the Maxima.
If you choose to get the 225/45's, run 3 or 4 more psi in them than you do in the 225/50's in order to maintain the same load capacity.
