Is this a good deal???

Just got back from the nissan dealer and i want your input regarding this deal is it a good deal or not? The car is a new 2002 nissan maxima se sterling mist in color, it has hmm lets see black leather heated seats and steering wheel, basically all options the sticker on it was 30,800 the salesman which was really cool by the way said he would sell it to me at 28,800 i talked him down to 28.300 he said ok then he told me nissan is now offering $1000.00 dollars rebate on there 02's so the total came to 27,300+ tax

Oh the interest rate is 3.9%. Please give me your feedback on this I gave him some money down to hold the car for me. I'm desperately trying to sell my car now...

I got exactly the same car (except mine is a loaded 2003 with Nav) on the last day of July for $26,900. I would push for a lower price, and maybe even wait a couple days until Aug 31st and then offer them a lower deal by about $1000 since there was NO manufacturer rebate to be had on my 2003.

Also, if you're in a big city like me, I had a list of all the dealers and just went calling down the list on July 31st, told them what I wanted and what I would pay, the 3rd dealer accepted my offer after talking with his manager.

Good luck!

It sounds like a nice car but you should easily be able to get a 2003 model for that price. No navigation system, right?

You should really do a search yourself since that question is asked on a weekly basis. Here a couple of relevant threads:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ighlight=price

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ighlight=price

Personally, I would expect to pay alot less for a 2k2 than a 2k3 model, the real difference will be apparent if you were to trade the car next spring.

It's actually www.Edmunds.com ...I think it's probably the best resource online. Helped me out alot when carshopping. Nissan Motors has a dealer holdback of 3% of Total Invoice, just FYI. Hope this helps.

As mentioned above by a smart shopper, the best way (imo) to car shop is to have dealers compete... Take the deal he offered you, go to another nissan dealer and say this is what he offered can you beat it (salesman never say no)....

Then after an hour of BS, take that deal, go back to original dealer and tell them this other dealer offered you that, why can't they beat it... they will of course say they can and will, and so on.. Just keep on going back and forth until they aren't budging anymore..

I've never been so lucky as to do this over the phone (they just flat out lie to me on the phone till you get there in person), and granted this is an annoying and time consuming (a whole weekend) process, but if it saves you two, three, maybe even four thousand - I'd say it's worth it....

If people are saying they picked up the same car a year newer with more options for LESS, then... well, they are trying to rip you off I'd say and you can do better...

you have to know that Dealer doesn't get the car invoice, they get it below invoice, 3-5% I believe.. and plus this is a 2002 car.. not a 2003.. so it's consider old car already... keep push the deal...

If you configer a similar 2003 model, the numbers will be almost the same. The only difference I believe is the titanium package for the 2003 models. Don't get stuck on that one car, if you want a good deal be prepared to walk out.

I paid $26.5 for that car (but grey lustre) and that was in March.

You're getting ripped off.

Wanna know how I've bought my last 3 cars? Here you go:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....5&pagenumber=2

I bought 3 cars by sending faxes to about 30 dealers. I researched, test drove, and went to the local place to see what the 'demand' is for the car (if it's considered a 'hot seller' or not). Then, http://www.bigyellow.com and find all the dealers within your driving distance. I decided I'd drive about 500 miles for my Max.

Then fax-blast all of the dealers with the exact same letter... list the options you want including EVERYTHING (color, trim, specialty stuff, etc) and at the bottom put "I sent this to letter to 30 dealers. I'm willing to pay $x for the car. First to respond gets my business." Also include how to contact you.

I've gotten my asking price all 3 times, once while I was still standing at the fax machine, so I lowered the price on the rest of the faxes and got that lower price instead. Also, the local place was asking $4k over what I finally paid for my 2k2 6-speed from a place one hour away.

I noticed a typo on mine above, I meant to say loaded EXCEPT for the NAV...but it's still a much better deal than what they are offering you.

Dont pay over 26k for a '02. Today and tomorrow they are going to try very hard to sell that car because it is the end of the month. Make sure your press hard.

Remember that the moment you drive the car off the lot you will lose $5k because it is already a year old. Add that to your intrest and tax and your negative 7K-8K dollars!! You must get a better deal on the 02' or don't buy.

Wow from the looks of it this doesn't seem to be a great deal after all, now taking into consideration all the options it has as noted above what should i offer them for it? Not including the $1000 rebate.

Going to close on a '02 SE 6 spd. loaded except Nav and Meridian (has leather, Bose, Sunroof, etc.), but more importantly, it has the Limited Slip (whoo hooo). Getting it for $25.7.
