i'm talking about the chrome are behind the orange lens. anyways, on the 2k-2k1 tails, there is no orange piece between the housing and the housing cover, making them more prone to dripping outside the target area.

You might also want to try Testors Candy Apple Red spray paint. A small can from Michaels or Hobby Lobby (or any other hobby shop) will work. I did this on my Celica (as have many others on the board) and it works great. Nice finish, matches well and lights up bright.

Just an option if you can't find the paint used here.

I believe you are correct. The orange part in my tail light is actualy a shade lighter then the top part.

If you paint over the reflectors, won't it be less bright then?
I only sprayed the bottom portion of the lense(the orange part), the top part is allready red so theres no need to spray it too. As for the inside refelctor surface(AKA "chrome" to you), it may have some red mist on it from the paint being sprayed around. To be honest I never looked to see it's condition. Either way it is meaningless to me since the blinker still eluminates perfectly fine.

I'm going to go take a pick of the blinker on at night now.

Can you take a night pic with only the blinkers on? There's a red glare from red portion of the tail light/brake light. I still see a little bit of orange in them.. however, they are still pretty cool.

Yeahthere is a tiny tiny bit of orange hue to it, but I think it looks 100Xs better than before.

I am definitely doing this one soon. Good Job Ethan. I never would have thought to try the inside of the light. At least this beats breaking lights while trying to get them apart.

Did you paint on the outside like he said, or did you paint the inside?

I was asking MaximaZero.
He said he used the Testors Candy Apple Red like a previous guy...That guy painted on the outside of his lense.
Originally, that was what I was gonna do, but this idea sounds great. I just need to know what color looks best.
It doesn't have to be exact, just close.

you can just get testor's "candy apple red" transparent red spray paint from walmart. it'll be in the toys/ hobby section. it's also less than 5 bucks. much cheaper than the other stuff.

max34: yes, i painted the inside.

Thanks for the NOPI link...I typed in "vans" in the search and got nothing! Stupid site.

As for you, Melteye....man, the first thing I'd do is get that frankencar intake off and see if you can get your CPU back and functioning. I'm not sure what the wreck did to your car, but sounds like the engine is messed. Check your throttle body..something...

I just painted over the amber on my outer tails with the Testors paint. It looks awesome!

Surprisingly, it looks better in direct sunlight than in shadow...

Anyway, after a couple days, if I decide they dont need one more coat of red, I'll put a couple of coats of clear gloss over the whole light to keep them from fading and chipping.

This Testors paint that all you guys have been talking about & using...in the long-term will it stand up to the heat generated by the bulbs, and the sun shining on it? I'm assuming that stuff isn't really intended for automotive use?

Like I said, I'm going to clear-coat it. But, the stuff sprayed on the inside shouldn't ever have any problems.

Another idea: I'm assuming the bulb for the turn signals is clear. How about putting a red one in there as well to add to the effect?

Just my luck.....
From cardomain.com that doesn't like me

Our member pages have been temporarily disabled from noon to 4:00pm (Pacific time) this Tuesday afternoon due to extraordinarily high traffic volumes on our shopping site. We will upgrade our servers by Jan. 20, and then our site will be speedier than ever. Thanks for your patience in the meantime!
