2nd gear scratch on 2k2 automagic!
Well, to you guyz w/ stick's this isn't much, but I was shocked w/ an automatic! Especially as smooth as the gear changes are.
I was driving down a relatively smooth street (Pinemont Dr) going to pick up the girlfriend and came to a stop at a light where in about 100 yards, the two lanes merge into one. I always pull in front of the car next to me at the light to make sure I don't have to follow some slow-a$$ driver. This brand new lookin' full size chevy truck starts revvin' it up next to me right before GREEN. I wasn't prepared to REALLY race so I just punched it, and the wheels start spinning searching for traction. Once I caught traction, I easily pulled on him, put then I heard a "chirp" from 1-2 gear. I was like, WTF! I started laughing! I piked my girl up and at another light I punched it again... and AGAIN caught a nice 2nd-gear scratch!
The street was smoother than most. I'm sure that helped. I just didn't think it was possible w/ the smooth gear changes of the 2k2.
Anybody else caught 2nd's?

well...
not discounting the Max itself, but...
alot of things have a bearing on that...
1. Tires in use. Not hard to chirp an RE92, but harded with others.
2. Condition of road (no I do not mean gravel covered)...certain road surfaces are better suited than others (even within asphalt or concrete there can be wide variances)
3. Ambient heat.
Even in my AE I was 'double chirping (yes with a stick)' all over the place in the winter and spring, then got new tires and the weather started heating up.

Damn, I wasn't aware there are so many auto Max's catching 2nd's! I just figured w/ as smooth and gradual as the shifts are in the 2k2, that it wouldn't be enough to chirp em'. I guess I was wrong.
It seems to only do it when I have a lot of wheel spin off the line. I guess b/c I'm going at a relatively slower speed by the 1-2 gear change. I dunno.

I used to get the same thing a lot of times during the first couple thousand miles. But i think my tires are wearing out now as there seems to be a whole lot more traction coming from the Potenza's.
