I have an '02. I reread your post and still I'm not even sure what I would be getting with this deal. From what you would send me, what additional work would have to be done (wiring, connectors, etc.) to get these babies to work. I plan on taking them to a mechanic buddy of mine and saying "can you swap these out for me?"...can this be done?

All that has to be done is cut the stock wiring harnesses and crimp them onto the new headlamps. Then plug and play. So you'd be looking at some wiring work and insist on getting the wiring done properly, you don’t want water or something else to destroy the headlights.

Basically my harness is a mess, but it includes 2 good relays and a dual relay socket (not absolutely necessary but makes the wiring neater. You'd want someone to make you a new harness, depending on the year of your Max.

This. for an 02/03, you'd need to simply plug the low-beam connector from the ballast onto the HID bulbs (same as with any other HIDs), then attach the necessary wiring for the other bulbs. Remember, these headlights don't have parking lights (the parking light bulb sockets were marred and I didn't bother attempting to force a 194 socket into it), but do have turn signals. I used the angel eyes as the "parking lights."

Would be pretty simple to drop in another brand projector? Say the Mercedes E55 bi-xenon model?

It should be. I didn't retrofit the projectors myself, as I had someone else do it. But these already have E55 bi-xenon in them, they're just out of a 04 Maxima.

Not nearly the same thing as 20s. Those are purely aesthetic in function. HIDs will help you see in all weather conditions and at night (as well as help you be seen).
