Infiniti VS. Maxima >??
how is a 1996 Infiniti I30 compared to a 1996 Maxima GLE?
they both have 140k on them, both for about 4+ grand.
is there anything mechanically that is different with an INF than a max?
are the engines just as solid?
i have no hesitations about buying a maxima with 140k on the block, but an infinity is unknown to me.
any words of wisdom ?
do INF's have Knock Sensors?
any problems specific to infinitis from that year?
anything you could mention would be helpful
thankyou

The only thing different would be the actual body itself. The drive train, motor, suspension and electronics are all exactly the same. The only problem i've had with mine is that I had the drivers side seat belt replaced twice and the AC bearings went out but they were under warranty from when I bought the car from Infiniti. That was with 118k on the odo. but now I have 153k and no problems at all. KBB the cars and see. The infiniti should be a little more pricey becuase it says Infiniti not Nissan. Also there is a sticky about everything every single level of maxima i.e. se, gle and whats the difference with the I30 and the I30T. Even when I have to buy spare parts I go to Nissan.
Edit: I forgot to add this earlier. I would take it to a Nissan/Infiniti Dealership and have them do a used car inspection. When I bought the car with 117k on the odo. The knock sensor, o2 sensors were replaced. Also the 4th gen coils have been known to go bad many a times. But mine have not gone out. Maybe just pure luck?

yea i saw and drove this thing today. 146k on the odo, paint is flawless. tires are new, tints are quality, leather is perfect cept for the emergency brake bag. couple of problems tho, back two speakers dont work, and the truck release doesnt work. i hear the truck pop when you hit either the door release or the keyless release, but the trunk doesnt open....you have to open it with a key. guy wants 4750 out the door (hes a smalltime dealer, but seems legit)

yeah get him down to 4k. speakers are no biggy and the trunk latch seems to get misaligned (or the little lever is activated) a lot. i think you'll be happier in an i30 the "sophisticated maxima".

what little lever are you talking about? cuz i looked at it and it had like a little metal arm sticking down with a black rubber covering. i tried to move it in all directions but it wouldnt budge.

I answered your pm in that other thread, LOLZ
In response to your PM..........
Yes, they are identical, they're made by nissan, tons of plastic things say nissan, part numbers for things like the knock sensor have the same nissan part # and come in a nissan box. The only differences are the exterior and some minor interior things, oh and the little plastic cover on the engine, other than that they are identical to a 4th gen yet better, most came with vlsd, it was standard on all i30t's and '99's.

With used cars, price can vary quite a bit. Infiniti owners are richers, so maybe they care less about giving you a better deal. Downside- i30 are much rarer than maximas
