Smart Key start and walk away!

Smart Key start and walk away!
I Know i from another gen, but I have a question. If you start your car for those of you who are lucky to have an 2007, is it possible for you to start your car and leave? Will the car turn itself off? What would happen

I'll have to try it later. Tho I did start it, then run back into the house for my coffee the other morning. it didn't shut off. Sitting there waiting for me.
It won't let you leave the key in the car and lock the door.
Found THAT out the hard way. GF sometimes likes to lock her luggage (I mean purse) into the trunk and only bring her wallet.
Kept unlocking the door for me. Until she took her keys with her which had the 2nd smart key. Hilarious

Have not seen this in action but a salesman told me that if the car is started by say the owner and driven off by someone who does not have the smart key on their person the car will shut off after getting xx number of ft away from the key. Anyone verified this?

We are not talking about driving away, were talking about letting it run while your in the house getting ready on the soon to come cold days.

rural setting - with remote starter you can start your car butt naked from your house, I doubt you'd be walking out to do that.
city setting - with remote starter you can start your car butt naked from your apartment or while walking a dog
you get the picture....ahaha hope you do/dont

Even though this is the Maxima forum, you might be interested in reading a Smart Key-related story about the couple that left their Altima Hybrid “on” in an airport parking lot. The engine was not running when they parked it and the driver apparently forgot to hit the “on-off” button so the “system” was still on. When the hybrid battery discharged to a certain level, the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) would start ON ITS OWN to charge it back up. This continued until it RAN OUT OF GAS!
When they returned from their trip, it was a major hassle trying to get the system back on and enough “juice” in the hybrid battery to drive home. The couple was lambasted by many members of the AH message board for not hitting the on-off button and apparently ignoring the warning beeps. They of course felt there should be some sort of safeguard built into the Smart Key system to prevent this from happening. I tend to agree.
Bottom line - I bet they don’t make this mistake again. But a more important question is how many other AH owners will learn this lesson the hard way. I think there’s a story floating around that a similar thing happened to somebody with the car parked IN THEIR ATTACHED GARAGE! Now, that’s a truly dangerous situation.

i don't see how that replaces a remote starter.

I have an 07 and like a couple of you had said, the car will not turn off unless u physically turn it off. now as for having someone drive it away.. im going to test that.. we will see how far they have to get before anything happens. and i wonder if u can fit a remote starter with the I-key... that'd be really nice. i love those mornings of running out to the car turning the heat on the runnin back. i used to do it in my 05 altima 3.5SE. i would leave the keys in the car but take the keyfob back inside. but now i can add heated seats to the mixture... heheheheh

Yes, you can start the car and leave. It will not shut off.
As for the driving away part, I had a little situation like that. I dropped my gf off at a PetSmart and forgot I asked her to hold my keys because I didn't have any pockets. Then, I drove down the street to grab us something to eat. It wasn't that far. Maybe less than a quarter mile. I turned off the car, went inside to get some food, got back in the car and couldn't start the car! I had to walk all the way to the PetSmart to get the key from my gf and then walk all the way back. I was mad as hell.

I cant remember the name, but on an Integra thread I saw once, he retrofitted the push button start onto his Integra (and then hid the button, part of his security layers) so it is possible to retro fit, but would take a lot of effort

Simply put
As Bigwei said. The new "intellikey" max will only start with the key nearby. Then they will run until turned off. Then your basically SOL without the key. I do this in parking lots for quick trips into say the coffee shop. Just have to remember to lock up when leaving. Good to go. There is no distance limitation or range with the key.
