Putting my Silvia turbo in over the weekend

Hey Guys,

I just wanted to keep you guys posted. So far, I have already broken in my gaskets and Act Stage 2 Clutch. Currently, my car is in the shop to to have the reinforcments cut, in order to fit my intercooler. Over the weekend, I will install my silvia turbo, intercooler, blow off valve, guages, MSD ignition timer, injectors, plugs, turbo timer, boost controller, wastegate, chrome manifold and 75 shot dry NOS system. I am currently waiting for my Ypipe, Bpipe, sway bar, and underdrive pulleys to come in, as well as my sparco 5 point racing seats, and a custom roll cage (sister made me get it). Hey do you guys have any suggestions of where to move my windshield wiper resoviour (Sorry Spelling). This setup is to break in my engine to handle the additional power. I am estimating I will pushing past 300hp with the 75 shots of NOS I am also currently waiting for my t3/t4 turbo and a stage 3 clutch, pistons, rods and other engine build ups. Well the project will *hopefully* be done by monday. Please post any reactions or suggestions you have. I might need it, since it will be a long long week end. Ahhhh to hear the whistle of the blow off valve when it is all done, not to mention the jerk of my neck as my turbo kicks in.... then..... NOS!!!

I'm getting the whole set up for about $2000.00. My friend works at Charisma in Cali. He is helping me do the whole install, so I do not have to pay for labor. I only needed to pay for the parts. I got the silvia turbo for free as well as the T3/t4 turbo. It's coming off my friends car and is a gift for me. The custom roll cage and sparco seats are a present. Love my peoples. All in all, it is only going to run me no more than $2000.00 for everything

so are you gonna use the Silva turbo or the T3/T4 turbo? it sounds like you want to use the Silva one but its an internal wastegate so you dont need to install a wastegate. what kind of pistons and rods did you get? is that all your building on your motor? i recommend you get a head gasket and possibly O-ring the block. well good luck and lemme know how it goes.

Well I'm going to start out with the silvia Turbo to break in the engine. I have to wait a month or so to get the T3/T4 off my friends car. My friend ordered the pistons for me, so I'm not sure what type but I have already changed out the head gasket and I will look into the O-ring. Hey Turbo95Max, what are you running? Current set up, problems, or warnings I need to know about? This will be my first major upgrade and it was kind of unexpected. Please let me know your experiences with your turbo.

What are you using for piping for the intercooler and the exhaust? Is it a kit or are you having your buddy custom make the exhaust and IC piping?

You're using a dry kit with a turbo? Hmmm, interesting.

Damn that is one nice set up. Are you worried about your engine? It seems like this is a little too much for the max to handle but if it works out great let me know, once I get the money I will want a set up like this, I just dont want to blow the engine.
Thanks,
Paul

The VQ is boost friendly. But for the big boost he's planning on, just follow the advice Turbo95Max gave and he should be fine.

Running any kind of boost is going to wear your engine considerably faster than N/A, but if you prepare and know what your doing, you'll be fine.

well, I haven't gotten to doing anything yet except cut the frame support to fit my intercooler. I still have to wait for my UDP, Ypipe, Bpipe and wastegate and sway bar. I know that the silvia turbo does not need one but I'm putting it in so that I can get ready for a bigger turbo when it comes in. I will post pics when I am done. I have replace the gaskets and O rings. Hopefully all the parts will come in by monday. i have one of my friends that is going to mount my guages and nos switch. I am also going to have a customized trunk with my NOS bottle.

As posted earlier, how are you using a Y-Pipe with this setup. Do you mean that you are making a custom "y-pipe" that combines both exhaust manifolds in one pipe and then routes to the turbo? And then a pipe coming from the turbo to the cat? Sorry, just being a lil' picky....

Yeah you will want a thicker head gasket for sure, and I would think pistons (custom of course).

How are you increasing/regulating your fuel delivery?
How will you tune/manage A/F ratio?
How will you regulate timing?
Are you using colder plugs?
Are you using your OEM throttle-body, MAF sensor & intake manifold?
I'm sorry to ask the next one, but are you "driving" this project, or is your friend using your car as a guinea pig?

Good luck.

I am using colder sparks and I have a custom intake manifold made for my car. ALl my piping is custom made for my turbo. I have a MSD ignition timing and 300zx fuel injectors. yes I am driving this project. I honestly don't know too much about turbo's but my friend does and he will teach me all that I need to know. My friend already has a turbo civic hatchback and will be selling it soon. He is looking to get a 95-97 240sx and do a whole silvia conversion.

windshield fluid resevoir.. you can just pull the neck piece that your pour fluid into OFF and tap off the top of the resevoir like i did. or you can go inside the inner fender and take out the entire resevoir, but why would you need to once you get that neck piece off.
